This hotel is ideally situated in the downtown area of Weihai. Easy and convenient access to restaurants, shopping malls, public transport and most other things. A bus stop less than 100m from the entrance and taxi's can be hailed cheaply from the same place too.This hotel may not look spectacular on the outside but it is a pleasant surprise on the inside. The room is spacious, clean with white linen on the bed which is more than comfortable. The shower is into the bath and though it is not as comfortable as a walk in shower, it works just as well and not really an inconvenience. The glass wall provides privacy from the room while still allowing natural light into the bathroom. A pleasant surprise was a few English channels on the flat screen TV, including at least two movie channels. Service is friendly and prompt. The only thing i found a bit of a let down in what was a most comfortable stay was the 'smoky' smell in the bath towels. Breakfast is ample and there is something to suit just about everyone's taste. Coffee was not so good, in my opinion. I guess it's a matter of taste. Definitely can recommend this hotel.

“Safe, well located, well priced”

Stayed here on business for 4 nights. Room was clean, quite (I had a high level floor) and the size and fit-out was actually better than expected. Service was fine, breakfast sufficient and enough to keep me happy. Location is great as it is across the esplanade and a shopping mall. While its a real tourist city (and very beautiful in the warmer months) its also aimed at the Chinese tourist. I wouldn't mind coming back again in the warmer season and if I do, I will try to stay here again.

“Disappointed”

Have stayed here many times before. Nothing has really changed. Amy on reception is still truly excellent. But, getting back after work a little late (for China), you don't want to be told the restaurant is closing and the Havana Club is closed for a wedding. So that means NOWHERE to go, sit, work… more

Have stayed here many times before. Nothing has really changed. Amy on reception is still truly excellent. But, getting back after work a little late (for China), you don't want to be told the restaurant is closing and the Havana Club is closed for a wedding. So that means NOWHERE to go, sit, work, chat, have a drink within the hotel. Then for it to be closed 2 nights running, and even reception staff not know about it, is really bad. For the first time in years I will look for another hotel. I did take a taxi to the Jianguo and ate in their upstairs restaurant but was the only person there except 2 staff members eating. Service was slow (why ?) and food (Spag Bol) not very good and almost cold. Maybe it's time to stay at The Bliss and use a lot of taxis ?

Not the best hotel even in Weihai. There are others with better rooms etc such as the Haiyue Jingao over by The Golden Bay. But, its location is perfect being in ‘downtown’ and makes up for any shortcomings. For me, staying at the Jingao would add another 10 – 15 minutes on my travelling twice or even four to six times a day and just isn’t worth it (for business, maybe for a holidaymaker it would be different). Opposite now is a big shopping mall –Wego Plaza – where there are several places to eat. Right outside is also a big selection of local shops (a Watson’s for toiletries, medicines etc is right around the corner) and even a small shopping mall underneath the hotel. You can walk to the sea front. There is an Italian restaurant within walking distance also (Tae Yi Fang I think it’s spelt) and even an American bar - Beavers. A 15 minute or so taxi ride away is the No 1 Italian Bistro. It has 20 floors of which 18 are for rooms. 20th floor is the Havana Club – their take on a semi-western lounge/bar complete with nightly Chinese singers (who seem to have been playing there every night for years – and look very bored themselves !!). Bear in mind also that 99% of Chinese seem to smoke – regardless of rules !! Hardly anyone speaks English (sometimes they have new staff who do) but the service is usually good and the best person is Gimi who speaks excellent English. Also, the manageress, Jenny, is superb even though she doesn’t have English herself. Definitely book a Non-Smoking room. And air-con doesn’t operate October – March so the rooms can be a bit stuffy and need the windows open and mesh blinds down to stop you being bitten (in summer). Floor 6 is the Chinese restaurant/breakfast and here Holly speaks English. I never venture down here as the food doesn’t suit me (you can have it delivered up to the 20th floor anyway) and it’s a bit of a ‘free-for-all’. Domestic visitors do like to pile every conceivable food onto the same plate – at the same time (chocolate cake with toast, fruit, fried eggs & fried noodle, ice cream !!) Reception is small but functional. The best person by far is a lady called Amy who speaks excellent English. Take cash with your cards as, often it seems, their credit card machines don’t work. But, bearing in mind a sea view room would be a little over RMB450 it’s not a lot and not a huge problem. Oh, and the safety deposit boxes in your room are NOT fixed to anything so you could, quite literally, put one under your arm and walk out !!! Anything really valuable ask the hotel to keep it. From Weihai Dashuipo airport it’s about 45 minutes but from the new Yantai airport about 75 minutes. Oh, it’s called the Brigh Center Hotel (on everything printed and up in lights on the roof) but actually it’s The Bright Center Hotel – they cannot spell !!!
