“Great just great”

We truly enjoyed this exceptional hotel with scrumptious and very generous breakfast, French and Chinese. A five minute walk to the metro. Staff is very friendly and helpful but unfortunately their English leaves a lot to be desired.

Very comfortable night spent between arriving in Shanghai and moving on to Shandong Province. The WiFi was fine and the shower hot and spacious. May be it was because I was tired but the bed was very good and I had a great sleep. The hotel is 15 minutes from West Nanjing Road tube station and it seems easier to walk if the weather is good than change from line 8 to line 13 for one stop It’s in an interesting part of Shanghai that warrants more investigation - next time.

I thought long and hard about my star rating for this hotel. During the first few days, it was a 5 and during the last few days it was a 1. Read the whole review and make up your own mind. My husband and I booked in for an 11 night stay. We were given room 416. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: (i) extremely reasonably priced, central Shanghai hotel, 10 mins from 3 different Metro stations, with a lovely riverbank walk along Suzhou Creek to Xinzha Road Metro (ii) very clean (iii) wide variety of foods at breakfast and great restaurant staff (iv) large, comfortable bed (v) rooms had smoke alarms, sprinklers, masks to wear in the event of a fire, recycling bins Cons: (i) the name. Sometimes this hotel is shown as the "Natural History Museum Hotel" and sometimes it is shown as the "Shanghai Station and People's Square Hotel". It is confusing. (ii) The Reception Staff: (a) We arrived at about 11am after a 12 hour flight and after having been up for 24 hours. We knew that check in was not until later and we were told to return to Reception at 1pm. We sat outside on the benches and, on our return at 1pm, other people had already been checked in. This was a minor irritation. (b) a couple of days after we arrived, 1 of the Reception Staff approached us to ask for repayment of a taxi fare that he had supposedly paid on our behalf the previous evening. We had not used a taxi on the previous evening. (c) On occasions there would be 4 people on Reception, none of them being useful. None of them spoke English (not that I would expect them to) (d) there was a lack of a "can do" attitude. For example, we could not get the tumble dryer to work after we put our washing through the hotel machine. When my husband asked Reception about this, apparently it was not their problem. The hotel had 2 irons for guests to use, but guests took them to their rooms for days on end. Again, Reception Staff were not interested. Also see my comments below re the air con. (iii) For the first half of our stay, the air con worked perfectly. It then suddenly stopped working. The first time we raised this with Reception, we were told it was due to the outside air temperature being lower. When we complained again, someone from Reception came and fiddled with the themometer. He went away and a little while later came back and told us that the air con was off in the whole hotel for several days for annual maintenance. We asked for a fan. We were told that there was no fan available. We asked other guests about their air con and we were told it was working perfectly. By this point, our room was 29 degrees and we were sweltering. We managed to partially deconstruct our window, so that we could open it wider, but it did not help much. When we asked again for a fan, one was found and brought to us. We felt that we had been lied to. (iv) twice our bed was not made, but we did receive at least 14 pairs of slippers and slippers I had only worn once were disposed of (v) there was very limited storage space - 1 boot locker, 1 shelf and 6 coat hangers

The hotel is average. The rooms are very small and the bathroom too. My room in particular had the smallest window and almost felt like sleeping in the attic. The hotel is average. The rooms are very small and the bathroom too. My room in particular had the smallest window and almost felt like sleeping in the attic. The hotel is definitely not close to the metro stations and yes it is an inconvenience to carry your luggage across blocks. It is located near the beautiful river bank and it is a pleasant walk along the banks but since the hotel itself is situated a little bit inside i wasnt sure if they have river facing rooms. It is a budget hotel which is good for a short stay. Despite just being 1 - 2 stops away from major attractions, I would still recommend their other location to stay at if you do decide to select this hotel. It was an average experience with nothing standing out at all. Cant fault them but cant compliment them either.
