My boyfriend and I stayed here for two days during a short stay in shanghai. I would say it was a pleasant stay. Don't expect it to be glamourous, actually on the outside it isn't much of a looker, slightly tired with s very local feel. The reception gave decent service - as in they were somewhat useful, although if you asked them to make external calls, they will claim their phone can only call within the hotel. The room was surprisingly big, definitely a lot nicer than their common areas. It was nicely decorated and clean, although don't expect much of a view. The location of this hotel is alright. You won't be able to walk to any of the tourist attractions but it isn't too far away from the subway, and catching a cab isn't hard. If you don't mind it being slightly far away from the attractions, but a good value place to stay, than Dongding does the trick.

Myself and my wife stayed at Dongding Hotel 2 times in April - May 2013, 5 nights in total. Of course, this is a not 4 star hotel. 2,5 or 3 stars, no more. But you must understand that "stars" in Europe and "stars" in Asia are very different things )) Pros: - Location is good, about 700 meters from Xizang Road South metro station, exit 1, Line 8 - just 4 stops to People's Square.You can get in minutes to everywhere. - Big room, en-suite facilities. - Staff is very friendly - but no English )) Cons: - Don't expect English in the hotel, even at the reception - no maps, no advices, no understanding. If you are limited in time, do everything in advance, especially check out. Nobody understands what you say. - 200 yuan deposit in cash only, refundable. - Our room was non-smoking, but when we checked in, we had strong smell of tobaco in the room. This is wide-spread in China. - We had problems with water in the toilet. - The carpet in the room had two big holes from fire. - They had wi-fi (free) only in the small restaurant in the lobby - it works spontaneously )) Advise: Transportation in Shanghai is cheap. Pudong and Hongqiao Airports are both connected by metro Line 2. But the last metro train goes to Pudong Airport from Longyang Road interchange station at 10 pm. Check the schedule. The price from Pudong Airport to Xizang Road South is only 11 yuans (55 min trip), from Xizang Road South to People's Square or Nanjing Road is only 3 yuans (15 mins). Shanghai is a very big city. 1 day metro pass costs 18 yuans only. Taxi is very cheap there too. For example, taxi ride at night time from the hotel to Hongqiao Railway station (speed train to Beijing) was only 70 yuans for 40 min ride.
