This hotel is super cool. Definitely stay here if you can. It is close to a subway station, right in a residential area which adds to the charm, with convenience stores and restaurants around. The area is very hip and comfortable to be. The design of the rooms is actually really nice. The hotel had the two cutest little puppies that would always say hi or bye when you walked past them (If you are afraid of dogs maybe not the best hotel for you). The two downsides: the way the bathroom is designed doesn't leave space for a big mirror, so you only have a small moveable makeup mirror. It can be tricky to shave properly, put contacts on, etc... Also, it is only three floors so no elevator. Heavy bags are a pain to carry upstairs. Other than that, I loved my stay here. On our last day, it was raining like crazy and the girl at the front office gave us an umbrella to take with us when we were leaving, which she didn't have to do. I recommend this place hands down.

Very pleasant stay but expectations must be managed. First of all, this is not your box standard hotel, and is more like a well put-together bed and breakfast. It’s more quaint and cosy rather than large and grand. They do not clean your room daily, they do it every other day (I personally only stayed 2 nights). Second of all, it’s not easy to locate the hotel. It’s tucked in a smaller alley on Kangding Road, so you really have to really pay attention to the little streets and watch out for their neon yellow hotel sign, which by the way is in Chinese. (Suggestion to owners: would be great if you can put up a sign with the English name of your hotel so that’s it’s easier for your English-speaking guests). Having said all that though, I really did enjoy my stay and would definitely return. The hotel itself was very new (I think it only opened in early 2018). I booked the “business room” which happened to be room 101, directly opposite the reception area. The room was spotless, modern and very comfortable. The design is quite minimalistic and resembles Muji the Japanese store (which is funny because the hotel’s name is Miju). The sheets felt crisp and clean, and the mattress was nice and sturdy (I prefer harder mattresses). It’s VERY well-lit and even in such a small room, there were many different lights I can switch on and off to create the perfect ambiance. Facing the bed is a large Mi TV. Amazing. Much better than the standard TVs you get from normal hotels. It had so many different movies and TV shows, I was spoilt rotten with choices (the highlight: my favourite show “Modern Family” was on!). Between the bed and the bathroom area is a small island counter where the sink is. I think this is a nice design because it gives you plenty of counter space, and makes it feel like the bedroom and bathroom are somewhat separated. Another interesting design is that the shower compartment and the toilet area share ONE door, so if you are staying in the room with 2 people and have a person showering and the other using the toilet at the same time, one of you is going to have to do your business without a door (likely the person using the toilet). If you are staying alone like me, it’s not going to bother you (I quite liked it actually). If you’re a light sleeper or prefer very quiet rooms, you may find that the rooms are not very soundproof. Again, I stayed at the first room on the ground floor, directly opposite the reception area, so I can hear doors open and close, people walking up and down the stairs. It’s acceptable, and honestly with the TV on, I barely noticed it most of the time. You need to think of this place as a big house, not an international hotel with concrete walls. Service was very decent. The lady who runs the hotel appears to be living in the same building and offered to wake up and order a taxi for me early in the morning, two days in a row. Really appreciated that, it made me feel like she went the extra mile to make my stay enjoyable. One last thing to note – pricing. When I was researching on the hotel, I was surprised by the average ratings when the photos looked so good. I then noticed a lot of people found this hotel to be overpriced, which is the main thing that brought the ratings down. After staying at Miju myself, I think I can understand why. If you’re looking at comfort level and the quality of the room they have to offer, this hotel definitely delivers an A-/B+ range product, which is why it’s a little more expensive. However, if you’re someone who likes a hotel with bells and whistles like a restaurant, a gym, a concierge, etc, you’re better off with something like a Marriott or a Hyatt. Personally, I really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely return.

This place is more like a BnB than a hotel as it's converted from an old house. There are 3 storeys & NO elevator! I stayed at the 2nd floor Business Room (City View) for 5 nights. The words of city view is misleading. I got a view of neighbour's window frames. The building is right in the middle of an older neighbourhood. Taxi will drop you at the roadside as they are not allowed to get into the area, only residents are allowed. It is a bit noisy, if you are not the morning type. Room service is really really limited although I stayed for 5 nights. They never changed the bed sheet, towels or even vacuumed the floor. Anyway, the room is nicely designed, modern and comfortable. Good location to explore Jing An area. Short walk to metro (Line 7). If daily housekeeping is what you believe to keep up on regular cleanliness of your room, or if you plan to have more than 2 days relaxing stay in Shanghai, this place might not meet your expectations. The lady at the reception is friendly. But when I checked out & asked for her help to call a taxi for me to get to the airport, she told me that I could get a taxi from the roadside. Well, don't expect too much from this place if you are used to enjoying the hotel services like me.
