This hotel is located close to Fudan University and close to the metro. Taxi rides to downtown are about 30 RMB highly dependent on traffic. The hotel itself is a bit worn and so are the rooms, however the bathrooms are actually totally renovated and very modern and excellent. The towels are OK. Linen and towels were clean. The bed is very hard, rock hard. Flat screen TV carries at least 20 Chinese programs. The room was generally clean, but a bit worn like the rest of the building. There is a bit of road noise. WiFi Internet was free but only available on the 3rd floor (?) You needed a password (the password was svahotel3F) The internet speed was extremely slow, but better than nothing. The breakfast restaurant is "interesting" - the buffet of only Chinese items, is served in front of at least 9 tanks with live sea creatures that are cooked at night. It's not exactly clean, but the food seemed fine and the staff is super friendly. No coffee or tea served, only a mysterious "orange juice" that was served HOT - I think it was the Chinese version of Tang - extremely sweet and 100% chemical. There are other options in the area, including a McDonald's if you hanker for a non-Chinese breakfast. The hotel staff is very young and helpful. There seemed to always be at least one person at the front desk with English skills good enough to help out. My wake-up calls were however consistently 30 - 60 min late for some reason, so use your cell phone alarm clock function or similar. They have a weird assortment of "stuff" in the bathroom, most of it at a charge (razor, panties, wash cloth etc). The room has an electric kettle and some instant coffee and such (at a charge). There was a selection of condoms bed side, as well as an ash tray and matches.
