The Shanxi Hotel is located in Taiyuan downtown Yingze District with railway station, bus station, major tourist agencies, Wuyi Square, Yingze Park, Wenying Park, shopping malls and numerous restaurants nearby in walking distance. Especially guests who go early in the morning on a pre-booked organized sightseeing tour will appreciate that all meeting points around the main tourist bus station at Yingze Rd. between Wuyi Square and Railway Station are just a short walk of only 10 minutes away. The 12-story main building is already old (we were told: 100 years) but in good condition and well renovated. It is part of a great ensemble of historical buildings with stunning classical architecture surrounding a large square, that today functions as the hotels parking area and access to the main entrance. The illumination of all fronts at night is creating an atmosphere as if being in a Chinese palace courtyard. The hotel has a serviced lobby, big functional rooms and is prepared to host large groups or conventions. Within 10 days we checked in and stayed twice in this hotel as individual tourist couple. Both times reception was efficient, friendly, attentive and helpful with some stuff members speaking English. Rooms were clean, well decorated but with little space for luggage from 2 guests. The bath rooms were well equipped but small with one the drain pipes partly clogged causing some flooding when unknowingly using the shower cabin. The inviting breakfast buffet offered a rich selection of typical Chinese dishes, fruits, juices, milk and freshly brewed coffee, also some toast and butter. Various soups, noodles and eggs were freshly prepared on demand. Check-out worked unexpectedly efficient despite the common inspection of room’s inventory for losses or damage before handing out the invoice to leaving guests. Overall we experienced a good performance of a good Chinese hotel in a very good location. We would come back.

“Beautiful Hotel in traditional Chinese style”

The Hotel was great! It looks beautiful, especially in the night and it‘s up-to-date inside the rooms. I rated it as average because of it‘s food (was not very good, but depends on tastes), cleanliness and not-working device such as door bells. The staff is working hard and very friendly.
