Interesting historical old Chinese style but the standard rooms were rather small and ordinary. The big thing was that we had to stop at the edge of the old town area and have our luggage hauled quite some distance into the all-pedestrian zone where the hotel was located, Everything in the 350 sq. km. Old Town area is a long walk on cobblestone paving but lots of restaurants and things to see. Just be prepared for 20+ min. walks to anything and it's easy to get lost or turned around in the maze of lanes. Wifi available but limited or restricted as to what you can receive. Breakfast buffet average, esp. western-style dishes but not unexpected in this region of the country.

“A charming hotel in the heart of Lijiang Old Town offering comfortable facilities.”

My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous 24 day private China Encounters Tour with Wendy Wu tours in June and July 2018. This trip included several days in delightful Yunnan Province. Wendy Wu chose the Wangfu Hotel for our 2 night stay in Lijiang. This was a most delightful experience. The Hotel has simple and graceful architecture which compliments many similar buildings in Lijiang Old Town. What makes this hotel so unique is that it is in the heart of the Old Town itself. Cars cannot enter the Old Town. Cars need to be parked in a car park outside of the Old Town and our luggage was transported by a porter using a hand driven cart from the car park outside the Old Town to the Hotel itself. The exterior of the hotel was indeed a WOW factor. It was very imposing indeed. Walking to our room along ornate corridors we passed beautifully landscaped Chinese style gardens. Our bedroom was modest but comfortable and clean. The facilities were not over the top but adequate for our needs as was the bathroom which included a shower over a plunge bath . The reception area was always kept busy, given the large number of guests checking in and out at various times throughout the day. However, the reception staff members were always very friendly and helpful to their guests. A nice feature was the Les Petites Écuries Yunnan Gastronomic Restaurant where we enjoyed a most pleasant western style Dinner on the first night and breakfasts on both mornings. For the evening meal we enjoyed as a shared meal Beef Balls Forest ( home made meat balls ,Yunnan flavoured mashed potatos, and Lijiang baby carrots) , Potato Platter ( Yunnan street food, potato balls, potato fries and potato cakes) and Wangfu Stir Fried Pork – a most delicious meal indeed. The atmosphere in this French Restaurant providing a delicate fusion of French and Chinese cuisine was pleasant and the wait staff were very efficient and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our two days enjoying the magnificence of the Lijiang Old Town, wandering along narrow streets and witnessing a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with brilliant culture, fabulous shops and enterprising eating houses. The old, original village is built around the concept of a network of canals intended to provide water to each and every household. We really enjoyed touring these canals of the Old Town during our visit. To be able to stay in such a charming hotel right in the heart of the Old town was a privilege. We greatly enjoyed the experience of our stay in this hotel and Lijiang Old Town.

My wife and I visited Lijiang the first week of April and decided to stay within the old town to capture the ethos and flavor of this beautiful and culturally rich area. We weren't disappointed. While the facilities were comfortable and well-located - the value add was the staff. One in particular was hotel Manager 'Ray.' As newbies to this area, Ray was instrumental in helping us shape an amazing visit to nearby attractions including Shuhe ancient town, the Mu residence, and his suggested Blue Moon Gorge. While Ray's suggestions were spot-on - he went beyond expectations and personally search for the most cost-beneficial option of traveling between sites. An added bonus was the beautiful restaurant next door as well as the front patio for a nice coffee and people watching! Perhaps the term that best describes our stay there would be 'family.' We certainly felt valued and warmly welcomed.
