“Good stay but needs improvement ”

Stayed here on friends recommendation. Room was at 8322 which was nice and spacious. The hotel rooms looks a bit dated, but maintained well and was fairly clean. It's Chinese tradition to smoke in the rooms and you could smell this. Not even the nice aroma of the hotel get get rid of the stench of cigarettes. The small room next to us had people smoking in it, and u could smell it. Mentioned this to the management about why not turn the whole hotel into a NON SMOK8NG HOTEL as it would benefit them,. They said it's culture and cannot change people from smoking. Which is bullS**t because all they need to do is charge the rooms 1000 rmb if people smoke. Simple. Pool was nice, greenery was nice. Chinese restaurant was nice. Service was OK I guess. Breakfast - Same everyday more or less. The problem with the breakfast area was the small amount of seats available. Need faster turnaround of people eating. Two easy ways to do this because it was the families that were taking forever : 1st is the snooker table, take the balls away and don't permit people to play during breakfast, kids eat, and then play whilst parents watch the phone. People waiting to sit down whilst these people playing snooker are hogging up the tables. It's a breakfast,. People should eat and then out. 2nd is get rid of the kids candy area and candy floss maker. Same principal as the snooker table. Parents on phones whilst kids playing with the candy floss or waiting their turn. Take away the snooker balls and candy floss maker, you get a quicker turnaround for breakfast tables. Not rocket science. Good stay but room for improvement. Final note = wearing a swim cap is total nonsense. One rule for others and another rule for others, inconsistent.

“Very close to being unforgettable”

We checked in here for the night wanting to experience a family friendly hotel in hangzhou that the others in the city do not offer. Felt good at check in, hotel smelled fantastic. The hotel occupy a big compound but only has 2 storey worth of rooms, think only 51 in total. We slept at the 3rd floor family room. It was huuge and very beautiful. The hardware were fantastic and the furnitures were clean. Being the top floor we had roof windows that had views of the outdoor pool and garden. My girl particularly loved the little kid corner with the slide, finally a private slide all by herself! There was ample space to place a dining table, seperate wardrobe area, and study.. see my pictures to get a better idea. The 2 small things i really loved were the Marshall speakers and the locally produced luxury toiletries. So happy with this place we cancelled our booking at Wyndham Grand to stay another night here. Facilities wise- this place is great for kids. Huge garden with fishes the pond, peacock, indoor/outdoor pool, kids zone albeit small. We ate breakfast and dinner at their restaurants. The breakfast had enough variety but quality was really average. Gone are the days that we can expect less for an international spread because it's China. No excuses- i felt that the croissants were poor. The small wanton had too much meat in it. The barbecued pork bun was actually normal pork bun. Custard bun supposed to be runny was soggy. Other than that, a pretty comprehensive chinese selection of noodle and rice, western spread, continental spread and juices. The chinese restaurant was pretty good. Some of the better ones were the organic veg (looked a lil like bak choy), fish ball, glutinous rice roll with peanuts, tofu with crab roe. The quality of service in the chinese hospitality industry has improved a lot over the years which make me feel Rose Garden hasn't move at that pace that quickly. With all the quality hardware they were offering, the service could not quite match it. Don't get me wrong, the staff did nothing wrong but they were forgettable. They tend to mind their own business and hardly communicate with u. Greetings were not common. At the restaurants, i did not see any wait staff offering to clear plates even at the buffet table. Some who are not quite visible, at the recreation area can be seen on their phones and sometimes watching video with speakers on. I understand that they may bored but it affects the professional image of the staff. Would i come back to Rose Garden? With a kid in tow , coming from shanghai, i likely will choose Intercontinental Thousand Lake or Tongli Lake Resort. If i am coming to Hangzhou, this may be my choice to get some peace, but there probably are many alternatives out there. In short, Rose Garden has so much promise yet they just fall short in giving me the experience to remember.

The resort lies inside a serene forest with a lot of green hard to find in Hangzhou. Although it joined Hyatt as Small Luxury Hotels member, I noticed that it still operated like a local Chinese hotel. Staff were nice but not professional. I was not greeted as a globalist, just like in other SLH. Room carport was stained (photo). Gym was locked at night. And you will see a guest profile very different from Hyatt brands. Breakfast had a good variety.
