We loved staying in this picturesque little bay and found Villa Malfi to be utterly charming, rather like an old school guesthouse. Arriving by car ferry early in the morning we parked next to the water and checked in with the delightful Anka. She shows us up to our room passing a pretty flower covered terrace for guest use with tables, chairs and a bbq. Our one bedroom apartment on the first floor had everything we needed for a two night stay. A simple kitchen, shower, nice big bed, overhead fan and, it's hot and I'm glad that we have much needed air conditioning at this time of year. Balcony doors open to reveal a gorgeous elevated view and my husband remarks "And we think New Zealand is beautiful" I have to agree. Our view is delightful and takes in all of the bay, crystal clear water, wooden boats bob and we decide to don swimming togs immediately. The beach is not really a beach, it's a jetty with sun loungers, umbrellas with handy steps to the water and a refreshing outdoor shower. We loved swimming with the boats surrounded by shoals of shiny fish. Evening dining is close and I really enjoyed our walk to the restaurants across the bay. The path was sandy, the air smelt of blackcurrants and we wander pass villas occupied by locals growing tomatoes, peppers and grapes. I think this is the most chilled out place, we read, we swam, I sunbathed, we enjoyed doing nothing but chill out and relax. We had a blissful time, this is what holidays should be about. It was also one of the cheapest places we stayed at $80. It's a bargain. P.S The compendium is a worth a read, it's informative about sights to see, places of interest, supermarkets, buses etc and amusingly someone has been busy typing up the repercussions if you break the house rules. I really would have liked a couple more idle days. Highly recommend.

“Great chill out”

Lovely setting looking out over the cove of Zaton. There is an access road directly infront of the villa and then a waterside patio area. Access to the water is via a set of stone steps - no beach just straight into the water. The villa is clean and well kept by the lovely Anka and her daughter Darija. Behind and above the villa - and all around the cove - is the main road between Split and Dubrovnik - quite noisy but you do stop noticing it. We flew and had a taxi transfer which then meant we had no transport. There is a supermarket about 10 mins walk away that would be adequate if self catering. We chose to eat out. The 2 local restaurants are 10-15 mins walk and there are more further around the cove. All the restaurants seem to have similar menus and prices. Althouh the villa address us Zaton Veliki, it is nearer to Zaton Mali with Zaton Veliki diagobally opposite to the left. There is a small snack bar in Zaton Veliki that is very good value. Štikovica is a small inlet about 15-20 mins walk to the left ofvyhe villa and had a pebble beach and a restaurant - only had a morning coffee there but seemed nice enough. There is also a restaurant halfway between the villa and Štikovica, Orsan, which has a slightly different menu and fantastic setting but is a bit more pricey than the others in the area. The buses run from stops near the supermarket/Babilon restaurant (not tried) and at the end of the road to the left of the villa - an easy/inexpensive way to get into Dubrovnik. Some of the boat trios will pick up/drop off outside the villa - talk to Anka. We spent a lot of time walking around the cove and decided Villa Malfi has the best location in terms of sun, view, access to a supermarket, restaurants and buses. If there wasn't so much world to see - we would definitely return!

Villa Malfi is set in the most beautiful location 9km from Dubrovnik. The apartments are on zaton bay and the setting is just beautiful. The apartment was basic, with kitchen, shower room, bedroom and balcony overlooking the bay. The perfect place to unwind from life and the busyness of Dubrovnik. There is a beautiful walk around the bay where you'll find some fantastic restaurants, we loved konoba dandy where we got great steaks and catch of the day, and konobo Ankora where we enjoyed the best tuna in town. Marina was a lovely host nice and very helpful with bus routes and trip suggestions. We would definitely visit again. Thank you for a fabulous time.

“Good value peaceful seaside accomodation”

Had a lovely relaxing break here for 3 days in late June. Peaceful seafront location in a quiet, attractive bay yet only a short bus ride away from Dubrovnik. Had a lovely relaxing break here for 3 days in late June. Peaceful seafront location in a quiet, attractive bay yet only a short bus ride away from Dubrovnik. Our room had a large kingsize bed and a balcony looking straight onto the sea with lovely views. They have a nice terrace area with a 'summer kitchen' for guests to prepare and eat their own food, as well as a private area on the sea promenade that has sun loungers and steps into the sea. We spent many hours there relaxing in the warm sunshine and cooling off with a nice swim. Our host Anka and her granddaughter were very friendly and helpful. Villa Malfi might not suit you if you're looking for somewhere busy with night life, or if you have problems walking and don't have a car with you. The nearest shops and restaurants are a good 10-15 minute walk away. This did not deter us, we enjyed the walks and would definitely go back.
