Casa Montalvo Boutique Hotel is a true gem in Cuenca! It’s a small, family-run hotel where you immediately feel at home — they genuinely take care of every guest with so much kindness and attention. The location is just perfect, right in the heart of downtown Cuenca, close to everything — restaurants, cafes, and the main attractions. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and beautifully comfortable — from the cozy bed and perfect mattress to all the little details that make your stay relaxing. The breakfast was absolutely delicious — fresh, generous, and made with care. The Wi-Fi was excellent too! My partner and I both worked remotely during our stay, and we never had any issues with speed or connection — it was perfect for video calls and online work. Wilmer and the whole team went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed — from restaurant and tour recommendations to arranging drivers and giving us great local tips. You can really feel their passion and love for what they do. It’s an incredible value for money and one of the best experiences we’ve had in Ecuador. We would recommend Casa Montalvo to anyone visiting Cuenca — you’ll be in excellent hands!

I never write, "best hotel in X". How could I possibly know without sleeping in all of them? But it's hard to imagine that there is a better hotel in Cuenca. I travel a lot, and this is among the nicest places I've ever stayed. Room: I stayed in the deluxe king suite, and it was palatial; roomy and beautifully decorated in a quaint but low-key style. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the shower had great water temperature and pressure.  Only one issue: conversations in the hall and front desk were clearly audible, as was traffic noise, though the latter was largely mitigated by keeping the double-paned windows closed. On arrival we were offered the garden suite; though we were genuinely delighted with our room, in retrospect the garden suite might have been a better choice.  Staff: The standout here is Wilmer; owner, factotum and all around great guy. He was helpful, friendly and personable. It's evident that this hotel is extremely well run: every staff member we interacted with was cheerful and friendly. Between the staff, the decor and the light and airy common areas, the overall "vibe" of this hotel is like that of the city itself: welcoming, attractive, peaceful and classy. Food: Breakfasts can only be described as works of art, complete with sculpted fruit plates and marmalades created by Wilmer. Fruit, pastries, eggs of all kinds, a variety of juices and a local dish was available every day. Even the coffee was good, which otherwise has not been our experience in Cuenca. Location: The surrounding neighborhood is lively but quiet, walkable and safe, and convenient for sightseeing. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. In short, your search for a hotel in Cuenca is over. Book here and I promise you will be very happy.

The cosy and peaceful atmosphere is perfect for winding down after a long day, and the warm, homelike setting makes it feel like more than just a hotel—it’s a true retreat. The cuisine is consistently delicious, and the staff is always exceptionally welcoming and attentive. I’d like to extend my congratulations to the owner for the thoughtful upgrades and improvements that have only enhanced the experience over time. Although my visits are usually for work, I’m planning to return soon with my wife, and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’ll love it just as much as I do. This bed and breakfast was better than imagined. The rooms were clean, the showers had plenty of hot water and pressure (not always the norm in South America). The included breakfast was exceptional. A fruit plate, coffee, breads, fresh prepared juice, a different Ecuadorean breakfast, and eggs to order if desired. Also, the staff was welcoming, helpful and bilingual. The location was quiet yet within 2-4 blocks from parks, shopping, restaurants. If you’re ever in Cuenca I cannot recommend a better location to stay.
