The Wyndham Guayaquil Puerto Santa Ana is exactly what you’d hope for from a well-established international chain — reliable, comfortable and well located, without any nasty surprises. If you’re using Guayaquil as a gateway to the Galápagos, this is a very sensible choice. The location alongside the waterfront is excellent. The views of the river are a highlight and the surrounding Santa Ana neighbourhood offers a large variety of restaurants right on your doorstep — perfect for an easy evening stroll and dinner without needing a taxi. There’s also a handy mini supermarket & a pharmacy at the back of the hotel for any last-minute supplies. Rooms are good sized with large, comfortable beds and all the essentials you need — the furnishings are functional rather than fancy, as you’d expect from a chain hotel, but everything is well maintained and cleanliness is consistently excellent. A wide-screen TV with channels in multiple languages and fast, reliable WiFi throughout make it easy to unwind after a busy day. Rooms with a Guayas River view are particularly worth requesting. Breakfast is included in the room rate and delivers well — a generous spread of hot and cold dishes complemented by a made-to-order omelette bar. For those wanting to relax, the rooftop level houses a good-sized pool and a large spa area — a welcome retreat after time on the islands. Staff are friendly and professional throughout, and English is spoken widely by the staff — a real plus if your Spanish is limited. One thing to be mindful of is the noise from a nearby venues on certain nights, so it may be worth requesting a room away from that side of the hotel if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, a comfortable, well-positioned hotel that does exactly what it promises. Not the most glamorous property in Ecuador, but for a Guayaquil stopover it hits the mark.
