Where do I start in the Kalawy? It's quite hard to review what was such a good holiday. We're experienced travellers and have been doing 5* AI for 20 or so years and this is up with the very best. Food: simply outstanding. The buffet had a barbecue, a roast, a prepped option, then another 4 or 5 live cooking stations and it was so clever. The food didn't go cold/dry out and clearly reduced waste. If you get stuck, there is a "plated" section where a chef does a speciality each evening. Lunch was as good, breakfast solid. The snack bars were amazing - all cooked fresh and the a la carte offerings were strong and not hard to get. Little things like not over cooking the meat whilst I never got anything undercooked - that takes skill and is unusual for a buffet. Entertainment: special shout out to Louis, Tilde, Janette and Viktoriia at the MyMo Maxi club. You made our kids holiday. They did archery, canoes, beach morning, pool games, racket sports, evening games and the "meet to eat" where they got to have an evening meal with their friends meant we also got some nice adult time. The other offerings were simply non stop. You cannot possibly get bored at this resort, whoever you are and whatever your background. That also includes not getting involved at all and whether you are watching from the edges of just doing your own thing, or at the front and in everything it's just all there. The teens club also organised evening meals at some a la carte's which I though was very clever. We didn't take any of the shows in so can't comment on those. Rooms: we had a pool view family room and again, outstanding. The kids had their own room and the bathroom in the middle. Well kept, housekeeping was great, although leaving the door open does let the mozzies in, so maybe a one to look at. It didn't really impact us to be fair. Fridge filled daily, robes and slippers provided with amenity kits and a nice shower gel dispenser. Drinks: never struggled to get a nice drink and whilst the beer is definitely best served cold, I did enjoy it. Water was plentiful and bar queues minimal. Lots of table service as well. Not many folk took cold cups for round the pool/at the beach, which I really don't understand as you get small paper/plastic around the pool. This would be a suggestion as drinks warm up in minutes in August. Pools: great choices. Towels from 7.30am meant not carrying them back overnight. I tended to go for an early morning jog so it was nice to have that available. Loungers generally available well into the morning but the usual selfish people taking 4 then not coming back to 3pm was annoying. After lunch, more become available anyway. We stayed mostly at the family pool. Lifeguards were top notch. Tried all the other pools and again all good. There are fixed canopies around most of the pools which are large and work very well, so no issues with the wind. Beach and snorkeling: The lagoon area is lovely, with the water sports based there. More sandy than you often get in Egypt. Beautiful to swim in, just like a massive outdoor pool. The house reef is also very good. We saw stingrays and little reef sharks lower down, with an amazing array of fish. Mostly able to get in, but on windy days they will red flag it. Again, excellent safety here with two rescue boats as well. Cleaning/general: This is one of the cleanest resorts I have ever seen. They are on it 24/7,.with the gardens well kept, paths swept, repairs being done as needed and constant attention to detail. The loos were very clean, something that does give confidence. None of us were particularly unwell, just some "lower end" stuff, but then again we did Valley of the Kings and it was mental hot. Dehydration plays a big part and as to my earlier point, maybe folk don't have enough to drink by sipping at 250ml cups. The food hygiene was excellent. Overall, this has to be the best overall value for money resort we've stayed at. The price point was superb. The friendliness of the staff, the respect for guests, the quality of the food and the amount of things you can do make it a brilliant destination. Yes, it's in the back end of nowhere, but we're used to that from Caribbean resorts. Yes, it would benefit from a sports bar with some pool tables etc, but that's really just a "nice to have". There was a spread of nationalities but everyone seemed to get on fine. Highly recommended and we will be looking to come back again.
