“Aurora hunting in comfort with great service!”

My husband (age 53) and I (age 47) spent 3 nights here from March 27-30, 2026 on the "Searching for the Northern Lights" package. We stayed in an Aurora Suite. Spring came (about a month) early this year and temps were in the 30s (F) and snow was melting fast. The staff were all commenting about … more

“A slice of civilisation in a remote tundra.”

A wonderful hideaway in the middle of nowhere. Lovely warm chalets with glass roofs comfy beds and ours even had its own sauna. The staff were amazing. Even more so when considering we were at the end of season after the Christmas madness there. Did a lot of activities, visiting the reindeers w… more

“Wow - Northern Lights”

Wow! We stayed in an aurora cabin with our two daughters for two nights and had an amazing time. We were incredibly lucky to see strong Northern Lights on both nights. We loved all of our activities - snow shoeing, hot tub, snowmobile adventure, 5k husky ride, search for Santa and kids' snowmobil… more

“Above the Arctic Circle in Comfort and Wonder”

Northern Lights Village is a special place, providing a perfect way to experience Lapland. The cottages are amazing, comfortable and outfitted with giant glass windows looking north to see the northern lights. The excursions for dogsledding and to a reindeer farm are great. • The top reviews of Aurora Igloos & Suites are: My husband (age 53) and I (age 47) spent 3 nights here from March 27-30, 2026 on the "Searching for the Northern Lights" package. We stayed in an Aurora Suite. Spring came (about a month) early this year and temps were in the 30s (F) and snow was melting fast. The staff were all commenting about how "warm" it was. Some activities were cancelled (dogsledding) and others modified (snowmobiling) but the staff did their absolute best to maximize guest experience despite these uncontrollable factors. We chose this property and package for the mix of activities, accommodations, photography focus, and overall value. The first activity "Aurora Photography Workshop" was really helpful. Risto is a local Finnish guy in charge of photography at the resort - he was great and I appreciated all the tips for photographing the Northern Lights, even as an amateur photographer. He shared useful tips for both iphones and DSLR/mirrorless cameras that helped tremendously! Pro-tip: Bring a tripod (any will do, mine was 6 inches tall) and remote shutter trigger. For the "Hunting for Auroras in the Wilderness" activity on our first night, a small group piled into 2 vans and Risto drove us through the surrounding park to secret spots for the best aurora photography. They were everywhere on this night and it was so exciting! He had a professional camera and took everyone's photo with the aurora that you could buy and download after checkout later for 5 euro. You can also buy his high quality photos from that night if you don't have a nice camera. Appreciated this! "Snowmobiling (4hrs)" was a blast! We ended up having a private tour as nobody else was booked on this day. Our guide, Barbala (sp?) was fantastic. We took an alternate route due to low snow conditions but I'm glad they didn't cancel it! We don't know the difference after all. 4 hours was a great long time out there riding through the forest and arctic swamp. We didn't go fast (max 35km/hr) due to low snow but it was still fabulous. We aren't small people but both fit comfortably on one snowmobile. Towards the end, we stopped to warm up at a "lavvu" (like a tipi) for hot mushroom soup and blueberry juice around the fire. Lovely! "Aurora Hunting on Snowshoes" was our least favorite. No chance of seeing aurora this night so it was just a trek on snowshoes around the property for about an hour. The deep snow had melted and refrozen a few times, making it easy to fall through. You're walking along and your whole shoe sinks 2-3 feet down. You can't push yourself up because the ground isn't stable. Not my most graceful moments lol. They should have encouraged first timers to take poles - this would have prevented falls. Was still an experience, though! Our 10k dogsledding activity was cancelled due to low snow conditions. This is best for the dogs, of course. They offered the opportunity to visit the kennel and a partial refund or cancel for a full refund. Thankfully, we did a 5k dogsled experience near Rovaniemi a couple days prior and are so glad we did (Pinewood Huskies are great). We took the refund and appreciated this option. The staff was even trying to organize transportation to one of their properties further north so that guests who were disappointed could still do it. Would mean an 11-hour day but worth it if you have your heart set on dogsledding. I'm sure some folks appreciated this option. "Aurora Hunting by Heated Sleigh" was held on our last night and there were 36 guests on the activity including lots of kids. The sleighs are pulled by snowmobiles and are pretty comfortable. Low chance of seeing aurora on this night but it was fun to hang out with the staff, other guests, and hear stories around the fire. The breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet is good, but not great. It is filling, tasty, with a variety of options and the menu rotates daily and can be viewed online. The primary purpose is sustenance between activities or relaxing days and it delivers. I enjoyed what I had and appreciated that food was available pretty much any time of day. Feedback: Something other than water and coffee included at lunch/dinner would be appreciated. Soft drinks and alcohol are purchased a-la-carte from the bar. The bar options are limited but perfectly adequate. Had some draft beer and Finnish G&Ts which were lovely. It wasn't a "hang at the bar and make friends" vibe (at least that we saw) - everyone pretty much stayed with their groups with a few exceptions. There are no real bartenders, the staff just helps out with the drinks. This works well for this property as the activities, accommodations, and aurora are the focus here. We loved our Aurora Suite and I'm glad we sprung for the extra space and sauna. Coming back to a private sauna after a day of winter activities is heavenly. You can also book 1hr private saunas with hot tubs (this may be more economical) but we enjoyed having a sauna in the room. The Aurora Suite (#24) had the perfect amount of space and surfaces to put things. A foyer to keep all your bulky winter clothing, great closet space, a small counter with fridge and shelves, nice bathroom with plenty of counter space. The fireplace was awesome and even puts out heat if you need it. The glass roof is also heated in case you need to melt snow (we didn't). Loved that we could draw the privacy curtains while keeping the top glass open for sky viewing. We never actually saw the aurora from bed, but the glass ceiling with sky and trees was still beautiful! It was spotless, felt luxurious, and was very comfortable :) Appreciated the way activities were organized. Every activity has its own booking with email confirmation and details. Group sizes range but they will make sure there are plenty of staff members to support large groups. Activities begin at one central building. When you check in, you're outfitted with winter coveralls and waterproof boots for the duration of your stay. You can also borrow gloves and balaclavas. All equipment needed for activities is kept here (skis, snowshoes, helmets). If you have your own stuff, great but you don't need to. They have the logistics handled well! They have a 360-degree camera on the roof that detects aurora activity and connects to an app for guests that will alert you if the Northern Lights appear during the night. This was great! Pro tip: Don't trust the aurora forecast in the app, it changes constantly. The staff was the highlight! We arrived at the tail end of the season and I'm sure everyone was tired but you wouldn't know it. Staff members still had great energy and treated us like their first guests rather than the last. Risto, Barbala, Oscar, and Clara were standouts for our stay. Of course, seeing the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed but the staff works hard to maximize every guest's opportunity to see them! They monitor weather, cloud, and aurora conditions closely and will move activities around as needed. They get just as excited as the guests on active aurora nights!.
