Ski Inn Hotel Pyhatunturi is used as a base for Crystal Ski from the UK. There is a plaza an arrival with the Ski Inn, Kultekero and Pyha suites surrounding it and the PyhaLinna apartments 100m down the road. If staying at the apartments you can book half board at the Ski Inn. Breakfast is buffet style and up to the usual Scandi standard. Dinner is a choice from a set menu - all very nice. The resort was very quiet in January and you often have the slopes mostly to yourself. There is equipment for hire in a shop on the plaza. Start off on the greens down from the apartments, then ski all the way round to the 6 person chairlift, which takes you to the top of the hill. Mixture of blacks, reds and blue slopes back down. From the top you can also access the northern facing slopes, pistes 7-9. Piste 7 is a fabulous cruising blue. Unfortunately, the 4 man chair lift to bring you back to the top was out of order, so you have a long, chilly ride on a t-bar. Please sort this out! The floodlights should be put on if mist shrouds the slopes, as this made conditions and visbility tricky. Temp -10 to -21, so quite cold! There are cafes all over the place with coffee and cake 9euro. Special note to skiing soul fans is the choice of music in the Ravintola Hoori cafe at the base, which played some fantastic soul and funk from back in the day. Indeed I also heard Jalen Ngonda and Durand Jones whilst having breakfast! Beer is 9-11euro, depending on what you have. Hotels will be quiet in the evening, but there are a couple of pubs down the road to the roundabout which were busier.

“Basic but good. Avoid half board !”

We had a lovely holiday. This hotel is in a great location and is basic but clean and comfortable. Thermostat in the room to choose your own heat level and a tray of tea coffee etc Breakfast was fresh and tasty with a pretty decent range of food. We had a lovely holiday. This hotel is in a great location and is basic but clean and comfortable. Thermostat in the room to choose your own heat level and a tray of tea coffee etc Breakfast was fresh and tasty with a pretty decent range of food. Arriving after the kitchen closed on the first night we were given a lovely meal in the pizza restaurant opposite. Nice little shop for snacks etc The not so great sometimes pretty bad: Half board : don't do it ! It is shockingly bad for the money paid. Think school canteen 30 years ago. 4 containers of stew type food, occasionally bread and 1 cake. You get a 2 hour late slot to eat but they often clear it all away early. Christmas gala dinner was marginally better but calling it a gala is a very generous stretch. It took me 4 enquires across the day to confirm that we actually had a dinner that evening and at what time ! Nice sauna but it only opens for a couple of hours a day. Reception: majority of the ladies were lovely but a couple were rude and most unable to help. It's a weird situation with the restaurant where the hotel don't seem to know anything about it and both restaurant and hotel resent the half board customers. Very bizarre. Drinks overpriced at the bar but the meal we had from there on the last day was delicious. Even more baffling that the half board dinner is so bad.

“Tripple rooms not as advertised should be twin plus camper if space is not required”

Triple rooms as advertised are a twin room with a camper bed added leaving no room between beds, if advertised as a double plus then we would have known what to expect. Triple rooms as advertised are a twin room with a camper bed added leaving no room between beds, if advertised as a double plus then we would have known what to expect. Three adults were crammed in with little space for luggage, these are twin rooms only and should be advertised as 2 plus or 2 and a half for parents with a child. Not happy with the description of the rooms being advertised. We later found out they do have triple rooms but are more expensive, this also was not offered when we booked. please be sure if you are a party of 3 that you specifically get a triple room and not the twin plus.
