The Grand Hotel d'Uriage is an historical building in the middle of a beautiful park with the charm and taste of the XIX century French "Art de vivre". the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The Spa is large with two thermal swimming pool, steam bath and sauna. The gastronomic restaurant is excellent with a very raffinated cuisine elaborated by the chef Carmen. The service is of outstanding quality. One of the best address in France not to be missed

“A restorative and heavenly trip back in time - with all mod cons”

We booked for two nights but stayed one more because we couldn't bear leaving - I wish we could have stayed longer! The staff were smiley, helpful and friendly. All the products in the bathrooms are from the deluxe 'Uriage' range. The hotel is calm, airy, luminous, set in a park next to a little village where you can find a butcher's, cheesemaker, two patisseries, snack bars/restaurants and a few cafés. There's a fabulous two-star Michelin restaurant next door, 'Maison Aribert' for 'gourmands' or there's the accompanying 'café' - 'Café A' - offering delicious food at affordable prices. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on the food, but the breakfast looked wonderful - we tend to have light breakfasts so went out. There are plenty of woodlands, mountains and fields to walk/trek through as well as the castle on top of the hill. Grenoble is nearby as is the only French Revolution museum in France (in Vizille) set in a castle and park. Lots to do for travellers who want to visit the area but if not, the hotel has two pools, a sauna and sunbathing area (the steam room - hamman was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions). Even though the hotel was full, we felt private and unaware of people around us. We took one of the attic rooms 'Mansard'. You should state you want a 'park' view as the other side, though fine, is not as spectacular. Warning: as I said, you do travel back in time so most shops and restaurants are closed Mondays, many on Tuesdays as well (inc the hotel's restaurant) and some on Sundays, so you need to be a little organised when planning meals.

The Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The room we had was not particularly big but comfortable. Shower not great as there was no splash screen or curtain, so difficult to shower without getting the bathroom wet. A few tips: think of investing into a Hotel mini bus to transport customers as taxis are far and between in this part of Grenoble and too expensive. As a Hotel you can charge visitors. Link the Thermal Spa company's website to the Hotel's so it is easier to book any treatments and see all what the Spa offers. When visiting the Hotel website you get the impression that the Spa is part of it but in fact is it a separate business. It would be to the advantage of both Hotel and Spa to expand the on line exposure. We tried to book a treatment but you need to do this weeks in advance generally, this is not clear when booking the hotel. There was nothing available during our 3 day stay.
