I liked this hotel a lot, despite it being slightly shabby. I think I owe much of my positive experience to the location of my room. I lucked out and got a room facing the public square and theatre across the street (hence the hotel's name). Therefore, my room came with a broad balcony with wooden doors and banisters that must date back to the 19th century (or beyond). I spent much of my time sitting on that balcony, sipping my coffee and watching the life of the town unfold in the square below. It was sublime, and that alone was worth the inexpensive room rate. I highly recommend requesting one of these balcony rooms if you stay here. Bear in mind that it's a budget hotel -- the communal spaces and hallways reminded me of my college dormitory. That being said, I found it to have lots of down-to-earth charm. All of the staff members I encountered were exceptionally friendly and professional. The rooms are a bit small, but clean and with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location can't be beat, right in the middle of the web of ancient, windy alleys and streets that make up the old village centre. Overall, I recommend this hotel for those willing to look past the more modest bits. But seriously, be sure to request a balcony, theatre-facing room!

Lovely welcome at reception. (Refurbishment in progress at time of visit - but no impact on our stay) Basic rooms, adequate for our 1 night, after all we were paying budget rates. We were worried about noise (reading other reviews) and the walls did seem thin, but in the end it was not an issue … more

Lovely welcome at reception. (Refurbishment in progress at time of visit - but no impact on our stay) Basic rooms, adequate for our 1 night, after all we were paying budget rates. We were worried about noise (reading other reviews) and the walls did seem thin, but in the end it was not an issue for us as we had a great night's sleep. Simply breakfast, but again on a budget so couldn't expect more. No parking at the hotel, but cheap (free overnight) public car park within 2 mins walk. (1 space outside entrance of hotel to unload bags). Would certainly return again.

... but it has some significant drawbacks. On the upside, it is ideally located in the old city, has a cute ambience about it, is inexpensive, and has a friendly staff. But it is very noisy (not just the usual street noise from being the center), with thin walls and doors that make you feel like your fellow guests are in the room with you. Also the day I stayed was swelteringly hot, and the hotel has neither AC nor good circulation, so the room was roasting even late at night. Breakfast buffet was absolutely uninspired.

Hotel is under renovations at the time of this writing, but the facilities: lobby, front door, dining room, are quite modern and up to date. They were redoing the carpeting when we visited. I thought the rooms were a bit pricey considering the inconvenience of the remodeling works going on and in these hotels you can hear everything plumbing and hall walkers. I spoke to the manager and he made everything right as rain ! Not sure I would stay again or if I would pay the bit extra (25€) for hotel with chandeliers, a spa and a bit more charm. Just saying.
