“Good stopover on way to alps”

Nice room in modern hotel near the station, 20 min wan into town. Free parking. Nice spa with sauna and steam room (no pool). Friendly helpful staff and great breakfast included.

“Tired and needs updating”

Tired, but friendly hotel, not disabled friendly as most rooms are on several levels, Bistro was awesome! And paid parking was close by, we used to stay as kids, it needs a bit of updating, staff were lovely!

We have stayed at the St Georges a number of times and always been delighted with the room, service and food. We were looking forward to our stay, which was part of a European break for our anniversary. Unfortunately this time we felt that standards had fallen quite a bit. First the positives: having told the hotel that it was our wedding anniversary, it was lovely to find a heart made of paper petals on the bed when we arrived. We also had a quiet room with a walk-in shower, which we'd requested. To the rest: the bathroom was badly designed, with the radiator so close to the toilet that one had to sit at an angle to use the WC. We had no hand towels, asked reception to give us some and instead received a second shower mat, which we made do with until the next day. Breakfast and dinner were a disappointment. Although essentially the breakfast offering was as usual, nothing seemed to be replenished and pastries weren't the usual standard. The fruit salad on our first two mornings was simply pineapple and watermelon, croissants were soggy and limp, bowls put out for cereals were all used and when I asked for one, it was simply pointed out to me that there was a stack on a shelf under the counter - no offer to take some out and leave them available for other guests. One of the coffee machines had run out of milk and despite two members of staff passing it frequently, no one seemed to notice the red light! The coffee machines do not offer cappuccino. On past visits I'd asked whether it was possible to have one and staff were gracious and happy to make one on the espresso/cappuccino machine which stands on the bar in the middle of the dining room. This time I was simply told no, they didn't offer cappuccino. On the plus side, the cake available was delicious! We'd recommend going for an early breakfast, so that you can hopefully find a full selection of food and crockery! We had dinner once in Le Terminus, the dining room in the hotel. It was a great disappointment. My burger, which I'd ordered as simply plain, came with some salad dressed with vinaigrette on top, which I had to scrape off. My initial notification that this was something I didn't want and didn't like was simply met with the offer of a plate on which to scrape the salad. Later, the manager came round to ask how everything was and on his second visit to the table offered to re-do the burger. By this time I'd eaten half of it, so it wasn't worth it. My husband ordered the cheese platter for dessert and was extremely disappointed in the quality. He'd had cheese in a local restaurant the night before and it was superb. The offering at Le Terminus looked like plastic and had no taste at all. On check out, no one asked how our stay was. Our room card was simply accepted and we were wished "bon journée". I'm sad to say that we won't be returning to the St Georges.
