“Lovely Place, Poor Service & Food Experience”

Lovely location. We caught a heatwave which sadly they just weren’t prepared for at all. The lodge was piping hot and uncomfortable. Atmosphere is nice on the lake but beware the midges so bring repellent and bite cream. We hired bikes which was great to get around, but as a UK customer I was disappointed to see cars hanging around mid week and lots of golf carts flying around which was a concern with my kids on their bikes as the French don’t seem to have driving etiquette. It was a nice stay for the family but benchmarked against all other UK center Parcs, we felt the quality wasn’t up to standard. The staff were quite miserable. The language barrier didn’t help I’m sure and whilst I can’t expect them to speak English, they didn’t seem to hide their contempt very well. I had a particular run in with a lazy lady manning the high ropes experience who couldn’t be bothered to help my daughter who was panicking at 30ft high, only to make faces with her colleague when I asked her to help. The safety seem really lacklustre. No staff up in the air manning the experience. Just two lazy, miserable staff members in a hut below. I would say that was pretty standard for the sort of attitude of staff in the park. For us, the worst possible negative was the eating out experience. Food choices are lacking in terms of their menus and quality of the food is quite poor. We paid a lot of money for undercooked food at the Italian and French cuisine restaurants. We couldn’t get into the Crepe restaurant and I would say they all seem to say they are booked up when they’re actually at 1/2 capacity. The crepe restaurant one day had one table inside taken with possibly 15 tables free inside and out and the waitress was adamant they could take us. So I watched from the bar for the next hour. - they never had any other internal customers. They seemingly just couldn’t be arsed to take on capacity. Really frustrating with hangry kids. The supermarket ran out of all standard stock in one day on the Monday and not restocked until Thursday. So we had to suffer 3 days of cheese sandwiches for lunch. No milk. No meats. Overall it was about half the price of UK in the half term break so I will give it a little leeway, but it was really badly let down in the food and service departments. Practical tips… pack fans for the lodge, midgey spray, bring some contingency food for lunches and in the lodge, don’t rely on the supermarket. Book the restaurants and experiences way before your stay. And finally for English natives, learn basic French. Not many of the service staff speak English.
