I travel the world in 5 stars hotels due to my job. I stopped in le Monarque on my way to Poitiers as I had to drive there (train strike...) and thought that spending an hour in Blois visiting in the morning would be a treat. What a great small hotel. Room is nice, the staff is welcoming, the restaurant makes it a place where there is 'life' and where you feel at home. Un hotel très sympa, très chaleureux avec un super rapport qualité prix.

“Budget city hotel, small room, but all O.K.”

We usually stay at more upmarket hotels, but this one was very acceptable and good value for money. It is very central, but this means there is no parking and even unloading your car is a hassle. Still, there’s a reasonably priced underground car park only a couple of hundred meters away. Ou room - number 11 - was tiny, but clean and functional. The windows opened onto flat roofs with A/C outlets, and the 'white noise' they produced was actually quite soothing and diminished the traffic noise. The room A/C was feeble, and we had to open these windows to get the room temperature down. Breakfast was not opulent, but it was fine: baguette, croissants, yogurt, ham, salami, cheese, muesli with fruit, fruit juices. Friendly staff.

“Great family room but appalling, processed breakfast”

This is the 3rd consecutive year that we have had a stopover in Le Monarque. We stayed in room 48 which is like a mini apartment: 2 bedrooms, bathroom & separate bathroom. This is the 3rd consecutive year that we have had a stopover in Le Monarque. We stayed in room 48 which is like a mini apartment: 2 bedrooms, bathroom & separate bathroom. The beds were so comfortable, air conditioning worked perfectly & the italian shower was super. It was really quiet & everyone had a great night’s sleep (2 adults & 2 children). We often stay in Logis Hotel (3 stars) & the bedrooms at Le Monarque were superior to what we’re used to. However, the breakfast was well below par & would prevent us from returning. It’s not expensive (€9.50 per adult/€5 per child) but even at that I did not find it good value – I would prefer to pay more for higher quality. Firstly, breakfast was from 0730-1000 but when we arrived @ 0900 the buffet was almost empty. It was impossible to find any staff – the buffet really is self-service! When we eventually did find someone, they advised we’d have to wait 20 mins (it was actually 25 mins) for croissants & pains au chocolat. They were so poor they must have been re-heated from frozen. Why could the hotel not provide fresh croissants from the lovely boulangerie next door? We asked for an espresso (instead of the miserable looking filter coffee on offer)  which they were going to charge us for until my husband complained. Most places would now have a decent coffee machine for self service. The fruit salad was tinned & disgusting – most places would offer fresh fruit salad. The cereals were really unappealing – missing a nice granola – the muesli looked particularly unappetising. I had an espresso & some tinned fruit – not a good start to the day!
