“Lunch only”

We called in for lunch as we passed through the town. We were warmly welcomed and received attentive service throughout our meal. Our food was nicely presented but was not in any way special. Perfectly acceptable and we enjoyed what we had..

“Great stopover hotel”

This hotel fell just right as we drove from the south back up north. We had the room at the top of the hotel on a very hot day and the room was very hot and never cooled down. This hotel fell just right as we drove from the south back up north. We had the room at the top of the hotel on a very hot day and the room was very hot and never cooled down. There was a fan but it didn’t work and no aircon. Despite that it was a comfortable bed and a large room with 2 windows that opened on to a quiet courtyard. Breakfast was typical of this kind of French hotel and perfectly adequate. A nice small town with a few bars and restaurants, most closed on a Monday but we had a decent meal sat out opposite the hotel

Nice hotel, after the initial disappointment of finding that it is modern and in a town centre. Not quite what we expected. Well attended by French and Belgians, so it is popular as an overnight. Very comfortable, and very pleasant and welcoming staff. The restaurant was very good, and the food was very, very good. Room was very comfortable. One gripe, I didn't like their WiFi arrangements. Complicated and you have to sign up via a portal, that "links" in to your social media. Intrusive and I wpuldn't gove it my access to my data!

As a frequent traveller I have come to experience many hotels over the years. The Hotel L'Amandois is generally a good hotel and meets all the basic requirements that one would have for a short stay. In the summer the lack of air conditioning in the rooms can make it more uncomfortable and difficult to sleep, however fans can be made available if you ask at reception. Another point to note is that breakfast is not included in the price and will cost an additional €11. As a business traveller I do not foot this cost so for convenience in the morning I pay this. However if I were a tourist in the area I would look to explore some of the other cafes which are in walking distance of the hotel. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad hotel. The rooms are comfortable, the beds are supportive. The bathroom gives you all your basic needs. It's not a luxurious place but you are not paying luxury prices.

The hotel is easy enough to find, particularly with SatNav but as another reviewer points out the name is "Hotel-Restaurant Amandois" and also shows the logo of the chain of which it belongs, "Logis", which in many respects is easier to see, particularly as the frontage/entrance is rather uninspiring. One feels that one is actually entering an office or shopping arcade. The actual reception is quite small and houses the bar as well. With two tub chairs either side of the entrance I am at a loss to understand who would want to drink at the bar! We were not over enamoured with the "welcome" indeed throughout our stay we realised that smiles and conversation were not included in the price. Oh yes, the man did give us a slight smile when we left! The room and en-suite were modern, clean and adequate and I believe that our room was indeed the one shown in the "traveller photo's" but we certainly did not have fungus or black on the tiles. The biggest downside for me at least was the TV and WiFi, whether or not they are all fed from the same source I don't know but it was impossible to receive BBC News (the only English speaking channel) although listed and the majority of the other channels were pixelated or froze. It was almost impossible to receive WiFi connection in the room which only permitted, occasional receipt of emails, but no content. The download appeared overnight when presumably not used by guests. For convenience, my wife and I eat in the restaurant. Unfortunately, we cannot remember exactly what we had but we do recall the salad bar which, whilst not lavish, was very very good and the wines not overly expensive. In all a satisfactory experience but as the staff on reception and the bar double up in the restaurant the service is all rather dull. It is a fine enough hotel to stay at if the location suits your journey but I could not recommend that you go out of your way.
