“Coffees in the Place des Plantagenets outside Fontevraud Abbey.”

After visiting the Abbey, we went here with our grandchildren for a coffee and hot chocolate. We were given the whole of the front room to ourselves to enjoy, which was very kind. The coffees were great as was the service and the ambience.

“Bike friendly”

Peaceful courtyard hotel, with decent restaurant and small pool. We stayed as part of a cycle tour and it’s very well located between a number of designated paths and quiet country lanes. Avoid the cheaper attic rooms, small and stuffy with restric light.

We weren't quite sure what to expect at La Croix Blanche because we have limited experience with hotels in the Logis chain and they often appear to be old-fashioned from the outside. We weren't quite sure what to expect at La Croix Blanche because we have limited experience with hotels in the Logis chain and they often appear to be old-fashioned from the outside. But La Croix Blanche turned out to be great -- it is in the heart of the town square directly across from the Abbey. We were greeted warmly, put our bikes in their secure indoor storage, and went up to our room (second floor, overlooking the flower filled courtyard). The room was spacious, had a sofa and chair to relax in, a modernized bathroom, and furnishings in good condition (although a little old fashioned). The weather was mild and because our room overlooked the courtyard, we could leave the window open a bit and did not need to ask for a fan (no a/c). Since it was a Saturday night, I had made a reservation at the adjoining restaurant (good thing, because it was extremely busy due to an evening event at the Abbey). The menu du jour was delicious, served quickly, and left us totally stuffed after a day's bike riding. The breakfast buffet was very complete and served in a spacious room on the property overlooking the courtyard. The hotel was also happy to store our bags the next morning for a few hours so we could tour the Abbey.

“Looks lovely but our room was very disappointing and let our stay down.”

I did ask when booking if the car park was a long walk as my husband had recently had an operation on his ankle and couldn’t walk far. We booked the family room as it had 2 double beds and a walk in shower. They go not have any rooms with super king beds. Unfortunately they omitted to mention that … more

I did ask when booking if the car park was a long walk as my husband had recently had an operation on his ankle and couldn’t walk far. We booked the family room as it had 2 double beds and a walk in shower. They go not have any rooms with super king beds. Unfortunately they omitted to mention that this room was up a very steep, narrow and twisty old wooden staircase. My husband really struggled with this and it gave him a lot of pain. The room was very much in need of an upgrade ,the beds were old and the sheets and especially the pillows were very poor. I did mention to the receptionist that the room needed a good clean and she told me as he would pass it on. The extracted fans in bathroom were so clogged with dust I don’t know how they worked, old red nail polish on wall of toilet. Had we not been meeting family from uk I wouldn’t have stayed. The breakfast and restaurant were very good. We went to see my husband’s daughter’s Heritage room, what a difference, good bed nice bathroom and seemed clean. Much more comfortable and a lower cost, still up a flight of stairs though. The swimming pool was supposed to be open but it wasn’t and didn’t look as if it had been for a couple of weeks as the water level was low but as the weather was chilly maybe didn’t matter to people. Very friendly British lady on reception. We enjoyed our stay in the in the area and seeing our family, but unfortunately I don’t think we would stay there again .
