We enjoyed a wonderful gastronomic break at l’Hostellerie du Grand Sully. The meal was exquisite; we had the Menu du Terroir (37€), starting with an elegant entrée of foie gras cuit au naturel et poele aux peches. Our main course was equally delicious with finely balanced flavours; filet de Barbue (turbot fish family) served with a fenouil and gnocchi emulsion. Local cheeses followed, then we finished with a fresh, light gazpacho de fruits rouges parfumée vodka. The four courses were faultless and perfectly complemented by a local Pouilly-Fumé. One of the finest meals we’ve had in ages – bravo. Service throughout was delightful and efficient. The décor and surroundings are regal – a throwback to classical France of thirty years ago. We’d booked a demi-pension break (excellent value at €169). Our only misgiving was our room in the modern annex (chambre 15); it was acceptable but small and lacked character. It’s set in a converted stable block with three other rooms. The bathroom is vast and empty with a corner shower while the bedroom seemed cramped and has a queen-sized bed. A small understairs cupboard acted as a wardrobe. On our next visit, we’ll ensure to stay in the old hotel with its characterful rooms and Napoleonic atmosphere. Breakfast next morning was fresh and filling; the café au lait was robust but not bitter and the assorted bread and croissants were delightful. It would have been perfect if charcuterie/cheese/eggs had been offered instead of simply jam. The owner couple, Yves and Stephanie are delightful hosts, pleasant, courteous and professional. We shall certainly stay again at l‘Hostellerie on our next visit to Sully-sur-Loire. A lovely little town with beautiful architecture, friendly hospitable Loiret people and a magnificent château and grounds.

This hotel has character, hence our third visit. We were not disappointed. Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished, with a jacuzzi bathtub in bathroom. This hotel has character, hence our third visit. We were not disappointed. Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished, with a jacuzzi bathtub in bathroom. Dinner in the hotel is somewhat formal... silver domes...wine placed on an out of reach side table etc !However the food is lovely, beautifully presented and excellent quality. Would have preferred a buffet breakfast as set breakfast rather carb loaded. The staff are very friendly and helpful, allowing you to get by with a bit of “Franglais”! Looking forward to a return perhaps next year!

The dinners were off high quality - our meals were well balanced with some unusual mixing of falovours and textures which made the meals quite meorable and worth a second visit! The breakfast equally pleasant. A hard working family enterprise that deserves its good repuration
