We had one night on route back to England and totally enjoyed our brief stay. The welcome was friendly and reception helped with the bags. The room we had was very pretty and had air conditioning ( much needed ) When we first arrived we noticed how pretty the hotel is with pieces of art and sculpture in the house and gardens. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was definitely worth its Michelin star. Just wish there had been a chocolate choice in the desserts. The staff were all so helpful and because my husband and I ended up sharing the choux pastry from the petit fou the waiter then brought us another 2. ! It’s little personal touch’s like that , that really stand out .

“Brilliant hotel for me and my dog”

I travel regularly from my home in Yorkshire to my son in Spain. Since I adopted an EU citizen dog , he comes too. Finding really good dog friendly hotels is hard. La Chapelle Saint Martin is brilliant. Beautiful hotel, very comfortable rooms, gorgeous parkland and terrific food. And it really welcomes dogs, providing both dog beds and bowls. So it more than meets both our needs.. it’s not cheap but anyone familiar with extortionate vet fees in the UK will be able to afford it.

Very convenient when eating in the Michelin star restaurant. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, are air-conditioned (actually a must during the hot summer months) and modern. Add to that the truly excellent breakfast (with special recognition for the fruit salad and breads) and it becomes clear that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. So why not the highest rating: for the price of more than €460 per night (that included breakfast for two and the additional charge for a dog) I expected a bit more than a small room under the roof.

Nice Relaix and Chateau hotel very handy for morning flights from Limoges Airport - less than 10 minutes away. Thursday night stay early March - was extremely quiet - only one other room occupied. The main draw is the 1* restaurant see seperate review. Everything was good but nothing really stood out. The car park is a short walk to the entrance which is fine if the weather is ok, not so good if you have luggage and its tipping down as there is no cover and nobody to meet you. There is no lift in the main house so if you have heavy luggage ask the staff to haul it upstairs. The room was nice but had a few things "missing". The sofa was too small for two to use - there was plenty of space for a larger sofa. The room was absolutely boiling as the radiator was on full. Unfortunately the bathroom was freezing as the heated towel rail cum radiator was not working. The whole place gave the impression that the grown ups had gone away and the place was run by willing yet inexperienced staff. This feeling was increased when being shown round we were told that the chef was female when it is clear that the Chef Patron Giles is male and not providing service. Finally do note that breakfast is extra 30e extra making the overall B&B price quite expensive for what we received. I should mention that ordering breakfast was also quite a performance. We were advised in our room that we should order breakfast on the form in the room prior to 11pm. We were also presented with the same form again after our 1* meal at the table to complete. Not sure about others but the last thing I want to do when having just finish one meal is fill out a form for the next. The pricing was also very unclear and it was suggested that if a light breakfast was required the charge would be reduced but no explanation how. In the end we had a very pleasant breakfast presented and served by a much more experienced team member. Little things but they add up. Overall for me its a 3/5 or 7/10.
