Great location when you travel by car. The hotel is only 10min walk from the old town and you can park your car in the secure parking lot of the hotel. This was particularly important for us as we were travelling with two oldtimers. The reception team was very friendly and the rooms, although relatively small were practical with direct access to the swimming pool. The air conditionning was working fine and very welcome as France was suffering from one of its worst Heat wave. Apart from an altercation with a very unfriendly waitress, our dining experiences ( we stayed 3 nights) were positive. Breakfast was good and plenty. Overall we can recommend this hotel as a starting point for trips in and around Carcassonne.

“Reasonable hotel ,ideal for castle visit”

Stayed for one night on a Sunday. I shared a twin bedroom ground floor room with patio door onto the garden and courtyard. Room was fine but not very big. Stayed for one night on a Sunday. I shared a twin bedroom ground floor room with patio door onto the garden and courtyard. Room was fine but not very big. TV tea and coffee provided and pleasant bathroom with a powerful shower. Hotel has a pleasant lounge area and the restaurant is bright and nice. Food in the restaurant was very good and cost for three courses was excellent. Breakfast was also nice with an excellent choice of both hot and cold items. Some of the breads were superb. Most of the staff very pleasant except the night gentleman who told our party of six to be quiet as he was on a phone call behind the bar. Other than that no complaints and hotel in ideal location to visit the castle. Word of advise the town is like a ghost town on Sunday evening from about 5.30pm on first weekend of March with no restaurants seeming to be open.

“Perfectly positioned”

I love staying at this hotel with its secure parking so close to the old cite. The rooms are comfortable some of the views excellent the food is good especially the breakfast but the staff can be a bit chilly

As many others have noted, the Mercure's proximity to La Cité is excellent, being an easy few minutes' walk. As many others have noted, the Mercure's proximity to La Cité is excellent, being an easy few minutes' walk. Our room had air conditioning, seemed quite clean, parking is ample and easy (certainly not always a given in old cities), and our standard room was tastefully, if spartanly, appointed. Our standard king room was extremely cramped, with no place to put anything. It was too small for any "real" furniture; only one built-in luggage rack/seat, two small barrel-shaped metal stools to serve as night stands, a small stool, and one small, metal tea-sized table. There was no room for a chair, dresser, or desk, a place for just one suitcase, and no place except the floor to put the extra pillows decorating the bed. Certainly not the case for other rooms, our safe happened not to work. A nice young man came up from reception but was unable to repair it. The partial glass shower enclosure made it impossible not to spray all over the floor no matter how careful we were and we had to mop it up with towels after each use. This standard room setup might be difficult for elderly visitors. For the price, we were expecting at least a little more elbow room. We certainly got by, but the hotel's location is its selling point.

Hotel's location is great, just a few minutes walk from the castle. The room was fine, but I did experience some problems: the room landline was broken with no dial tone. the hairdryer would work for a minute or two and cut out, and anyone trying to use the shower and bath needed a PhD in Mechanic… more

Hotel's location is great, just a few minutes walk from the castle. The room was fine, but I did experience some problems: the room landline was broken with no dial tone. the hairdryer would work for a minute or two and cut out, and anyone trying to use the shower and bath needed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. The bath appeared not to have a plug and when our Tour Manager asked at reception on my behalf, he was told "She shouldn't be having a bath, it's not environmentally friendly". Don't put one in the room then. The plug-hole closes invisibly by turning a chrome dial, you have no idea it's shut as it doesn't look any different and I was told this was what the architect wanted. Keep it Simple please! Room kept clean and if they can iron out the "over designed" elements, it's a good place. But not 4 star.
