I have stayed at the Hotel d'Espagne 11 years in a row now, when I travel to Lourdes on Pilgrimage. There was a time when I would have given it a lower rating, however, since the most recent owners, it has improved greatly. Although the decor has not changed much, there is still a noticeable difference in the atmosphere of the hotel. The management and staff is very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. I find the lobby, reception area and bar area to have an 'old world' feel that is unique and charming. The food is very good! Many years ago, the opposite would have been true, but since the new management, the meals are great. I also eat a gluten-free diet, and I can tell you, not only did they accommodate my needs, the special meals were delicious! Also, this year I forgot to request the gluten free meals prior to my arrival. Well, they remembered without me saying anything! This is a small detail, but it was very special! The dining room staff is excellent-especially Maria! Everyone is friendly, pleasant and makes you feel at home. I also really love the location of this hotel. It's not too far from the Grotto. It takes me about 10 minutes to walk there depending on the crowds. Yes, there are hotels closer, but the d'Espagne is located on a very spacious street, away from the crowds, yet still in the heart of everything. There is an excellent restaurant (Brasserie le Bodegon) on the street level which also has cafe seating where you can enjoy a wonderful meal, the menu du jour or simply some gelato, while enjoying the view of the river. It's really quite lovely! Every year, I look forward to returning to Lourdes and the Hotel d'Espagne!

Im 16 and I stayed at this hotel as part of a 50 or so youth pilgrimage from Liverpool, England. I wasn't expecting much and had heard some horror stories from past pilgrims who had stayed but most were settled on the first night. We arrived about 11 o'clock and were greeted cheerfully by the staff and I was happy with the rooms, 2 beds, tv, wardrobe and dressing table; basic, yes, but it was all i needed for the 6 day stay. The beds were comfy with the exception that my feet overhung slightly but i am pretty tall and to be honest, after the 26 hour coach journey, i wasn't in any state to care what i slept on. The bathroom was quite spacious and included a bath, toilet, b-day, sing and hairdryer. The bath did have a shower but it was fixed low so you had to sit down but this different between rooms. Food was nice, but being vegetarian the food is normally fresher where-ever i go. The meals consisted off 3 courses, a soup starter, main and dessert ranging from fish to meat in a variety of sauces. You get given a jug of water and if it runs out i just went over to the bar and changed it for a full one but apart from that, no other drinks were available to my knowledge. Breakfast was disappointing, a croissant and section of French stick with jam and butter; this was the case everyday but lunch and dinner made up for it. The location is good in my opinion because you are far away enough to escape the majority of the noise but still close enough to get to the grotto in 10 mins at a slow/leisurely pace whilst have a gander in the shops at the same time and you could easily get there in 5 in you want briskly. Also, there is an amazing ice-cream shop next to the bridge, around the corner from the hotel which does great milkshakes! WiFi was free, but i have no experience of the bar, There was a shop underneath the hotel as well but i would recommend going into the center to get better prices.

I had a lovely stay here. All the staff were amazing and the service was impeccable. Location wise it is a little on the outer but close enough to the action. I had a lovely stay here. All the staff were amazing and the service was impeccable. Location wise it is a little on the outer but close enough to the action. Would suit people who don't want I be amongst it all. Downside was having to pay for wifi separately. Originally as I was solo they put me in a twin room, I felt like I was in a dorm but I asked to change rooms on my second night and they did so without any fuss except for asking me why didn't I ask earlier. I highly recommend getting the riverside view. Simple, sweet just what the soul needed.

“Perfect for Lourdes Pilgramage”

I stayed here during my pilgrimage and its location and amenities were perfect for the occasion. The rooms are quaint but sufficient. The food is catered according to your ethnicity which made it comforting.
