We had a wonderful stay at Aquabella Hotel and Spa! The reception desk was excellent. Erwan checked us in, and he was very welcoming and professional. Other reception desk staff members were helpful, and they were all knowledgeable about Aix-en-Provence. The location was perfect. It was easy to walk to the city center, but the property is far enough away to provide quiet nights for sleeping. We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast and especially liked the espresso coffee machines. You could select what you wanted, then the machine would do the rest, which made it easy to access and efficient for a quick refill. We just visited the bar once, but the bartender was welcoming, and the service was great. My husband said the parking was easy, and it was very close. We did not use the pool or the spa due to a too short visit. I had read about Aquabella in a Rick Steves travel book, and we were all pleased with the property.

“generous breakfast and relaxing spa”

location is along the edge of the historic area of town, which is about a 5 minute walk away to its center. it is built on top of ancient roman ruins, and the only standing part of the old roman city wall remaining is incorporated into the swimming pool area. the pool was closed but i can imaging during the summer it would be very very nice as the surrounding patio was large, right off of the restaurant. checking was nice and easy. the room was nicely and smartly decorated, and we had a wonderful view of the old town rooftops. our patio was very pleasant to look out from morning and evening. breakfast was the best of our entire trip with lots of choices. the spa which is included in the room price was quite nice and relaxing- although the jacuzzi at 8 am was not hot enough at all. the spa staff kindly gave me a complimentary travel type swim suit since i had forgotten mine. parking was extra and in a nearby public lot which had a problematic, non functioning exit kiosk.

“Lovely hotel in a lovely town”

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location, just a short walk to the old town. Restaurant here is excellent as well. Staff is friendly and speak excellent English. Rooms are nicely furnished with good space for clothes.

We do not often give tentative reviews. However, some points need mentioning here. Good points - great location, friendly welcome at reception, and comfy bed. Also the pool is rather beautiful to look at. Most of the staff at reception were great but the staff at breakfast need service aware. We are should not feel like an inconvenience. Poor points - the breakfast was, in our opinion, dire for 4 star hotel, with cold ‘hot’ items, the worst scrambled or omelette eggs we have had in a hotel, no freshly fried eggs, no fresh warm food, no fresh coffee table service. The hot food section had an appearance of being ready to close down There was no care for guests at breakfast. Even the fresh fruit offering was poor. The plastic sunbeds were dirty, especially at the backs, which is surprising for the start of the season! Just hose them down! The parasols seemed old, cheap and nasty and the pool towels seem very threadbare and need replacing urgently and are not large enough. They are not very fitting for the south of France, Drinks at the pool were much more expensive than we expected, compared with Côte d’Azur prices or other hotels and bars in Aix. The bath sealant was mouldy; the parking arrangements are not great, though it worked for us. Also the TV would not change channels and the remote control did not function except for on/off and volume. The design aesthetic fell short of our standard. However the architecture of the orangery are one of its plus points and saving graces, in addition to the pool location. The access to the pool via the spa is strange! We never saw anyone on reception at the spa. It was not very welcoming. We understand that it is not, in comparison, very expensive, but it is not 4 star standard on anything. Overall, we loved Aix and had a wonderful time but we were disappointed with the hotel standard and it should be 3 star maximum with lower prices. It needs a full renovation and much more staff training and management.
