If you are after a clean, convenient and quiet place for an overnight stop near St Charles station in Marseilles, this is hard to beat. It is modern and bright, with cheerful and efficient reception. Rooms are small with most space taken up by the bed. But all amenities work well, including wifi. Breakfast is fantastic and well beyond a basic continental offering. Fresh juice, bread, bakery offerings, eggs, cereal, fruit and reasonable coffee are all on offer and great value. It is a 7 min walk from both the train and bus stations and the area is safe.

St Charles Firstly, make sure you’ve booked this Ibis hotel not the one with “Centre” in the title - ridiculous to have 2 similarly named hotels so close together! We stayed here because we arrived late by train and took an early train - it was ideal. It gets extra points for having much better sustainability happening (eg at breakfast) than almost anywhere we stayed. The decoration was fresh and colourful, the room was small but comfortable and cheap. The other bonus is that if you have breakfast it starts at about 5.30am so it’s easy to do before your train. I found it very hard to find instructions to get there with bags from the station - avoid the impressive feature steps down and up - so here they are: Avoid the stairs! 1. From the station, head down the escalator (or lift although I’m not entirely sure where the latter is) following signs to metro and taxis (B’vard Maurice Bourdet) 2. Keep going down another escalator to the lower metro level 3. You will then see a sign saying (sortie) P. Des Marseillaises - follow that escalator UP! (Yes, up.) 4. There is a short, well-lit pedestrian tunnel, go through that and you will be on the street that runs across the bottom of the big steps. At the road crossing in the street to your left (that runs into the steps) you will already see Hotel Windsor; Ibis Styles Marseille (Gare) St-Charles is 10 metres along! Easy 🤩

Hotel was not impressive, actually, depressing ambience. The WiFi worked fine and the room facilities were fine. Hotel was not impressive, actually, depressing ambience. The WiFi worked fine and the room facilities were fine. I stayed 4 nights, and on the day before I left, housekeeping entered, and cleaned my room, despite a do not disturb sign on my room. This is totally unforgivable! As the room has no safety box, money was visible - none was stolen - but this made me very upset. The do not disturb sign was on the door my entire stay. The person entering my room should be replaced. This is not a small issue. The hotel is literally 30meters from the steps of the rail station ( gare ). When you exit the train, go to your left and go through the exit marked NARVIK - there’s a Paul bakery right there. When you go outside, you will see 2, lion statues on the right. Go down the steps there. At the bottom of the steps, go straight for 30 m., and the hotel is on the left. I felt that the breakfast was poor. Overall, not an impressive property. It was gloomy and the reception were not particularly friendly.

Styles go out of style, and this is not an IBIS "Styles" hotel, it is an exhausted place. Rooms are good, common areas are in need of replacement, one lift is tragic or comic at best.
