I stayed four days at the Royal Hotel in Versailles. Let me make this plain: It is not a five-star hotel (even though the management has experience working for five-star hotels). It is only a two-star hotel (and ratings should reflect that and not expect more). However, with that said, it is the best two-star hotel I have ever stayed in. The management is personal and very supportive. The owners are the ones who personally serve the breakfast in the morning. They helped me with figuring out my train schedule to the Charles de Gaule airport. They appreciated my attempts at speaking French and gently corrected me when I said something improper. They make the Royal Hotel in Versailles what it is. The room itself was very clean and quiet (for the most part). The only exception to that is when the trash pickup came late at night and I could hear them outside my window. I have no idea why they want to pick up the trash so late at night. The room itself had a small kitchenette with a small refrigerator, stove, and microwave and with limited pots, bowls, plates, glasses, and silverware. When my wife was sick, I was able to go to the Monoprix grocery store near the hotel and purchase some soup to warm up. There is also a pharmacy close by which was handy for us. The location is good, within walking distance from the Versailles Chateau (palace), and it was near many restaurants and shops. It is within walking distance of the Versailles open market, which we visited as well. The hotel itself closes at 11 pm, but they provide a code to a side entrance which enables a guest to come in after hours. The internet worked well, and we never had any other type of issues. There are other hotel options in Versailles, but if we were to return, we would stay again at the Royal Hotel.

Sylvie and Philippe, are unequaled in welcoming guests and making one feel as if you are staying at home away from home. At the same time they are attentive to one's needs and comfort, and genuinely interested in your personal stay, both with them and in the town. We have traveled to over 50 countries in the last 50+ years and this is one of the very few times we have asked for business cards to give to our friends back home. Their hospitality was such that we even invited them to stay with us, in our home, should they ever wish to visit.

As soon as you walk through the door you are made to feel welcome. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is clean and in a great location. The bed was very comfortable and the small kitchenette in the room was perfect for our needs. There are loads of very good restaurants nearby and the hotel is ideal for a few days visiting the Versailles Palace and Gardens. If your looking for a 5 star hotel then this is probably not for you, but if a 5 star location, staff and owners is good enough then this is ideal.

“Great service”

We arrived very late and the staff remained to check us in. The hotel is in a great location and walking distance of Versailles. There is plenty of good eateries around and a train station if you walking distance to go to Paris. The staff spoke very good English and were welcoming.
