“Love the Hotel, hate the forced tipping”

First, let me write about the good and also state that I would gladly return. This is a very nice 4-star hotel. Not a 5, but a good, solid 4. Maybe even 4.5 star. It's extremely well located, extremely well maintained, extremely clean, very helpful staff, a great spa section, a breakfast buffet rarely seen in Germany with a dinner buffet, while not superior, I found to be more than acceptable. It does have a couple of drawbacks though (the bad). We stayed in the garden section and while we had cool rainy weather for the 6 days of our stay allowing us to open the windows, there is no air of any kind (A.C. or fan) in these rooms so we got lucky. It is my understanding however that the main building has A.C. in the rooms, but I could not verify it. You’ll want to check before booking in the warmer months. There is one major problem with this hotel, though, and that is "forced tipping". Everything is charged to your room and there is a section for "Trinkgeld" (tip) just above your signature, and every single person that is involved in the bill is always looking over your shoulder when you sign. Massage, restaurant, bar......... it doesn't matter. They are right there over your shoulder. It's as bad as the United States. I have always despised the tipping culture of the U.S., and it has always been one of the things I've absolutely loved about Germany in that they pay their people a living wage and tips are not expected being that it's part of the price you pay. But here, it feels forced. With these two caveats, I would highly recommend this spa hotel.

This hotel has a classic beauty-high ceilings, stain glassed windows, wooden paneling and gold glazing. The hotel is located near the downtown walking area and Kurgarten. This is the place to be for eating, relaxing and live music. There were three concerts a day during our stay. The hotel consists of multiple buildings, some of which are more dated than others. Our room was in the Garden Villa. While the room was very spacious and included relaxing garden views, it was also well worn and decorated in the 1970s-1980s fashion. Our family was staying in the main building in a much more modern and well maintained room. Hotel has its own parking garage. The breakfast is served in a beautiful atmosphere with friendly staff. The breakfast selection was one of the best I have seen. Warm foods, deli selection, fresh fruits and breads, numerous yogurts and juices. The service was very accommodating and English friendly. The pool, hot tub and sauna area were also nice. The exception being that the 90 Degree sauna was not functioning properly and the sauna rules weren’t clearly displayed. This led to confusion about whether bathing suits were allowed/required in the sauna area. NOTE: Exchange or turn in of robes and the red pool towels is at the front desk.

Unfortunately our first experience was being sent to the wrong room in a villa far from the centre.After this was rectified, our proper room was very well appointed and comfortable. We've visited Bad Kissingen before (during the Rakosky Fest) and so were not fazed by the old-fashioned traditional spa-like ambience in the Hotel, but to the uninitiated you could feel slightly out-of-place. The Buffet Dinner was very good and is served in huge rooms with equally high ceilings. The Pool-zone was nice and although all modernity seems an anathema, the slightly lost feeling you have in navigating the hotel adds to its' charm

“Huge hotel, old fashioned and majestic - with rude and unfriendly front desk service.”

We stayed for 2 nights on our way down to italy. We enjoyed the nice pool. spa area and breakfast. Our welcome was not good - we were met with no smiles or welcome from the slow staff, and when we finally got our key, there were only one double bed in our room - and we were 2 adults and 3 kids. We stayed for 2 nights on our way down to italy. We enjoyed the nice pool. spa area and breakfast. Our welcome was not good - we were met with no smiles or welcome from the slow staff, and when we finally got our key, there were only one double bed in our room - and we were 2 adults and 3 kids. Some of the cleaning staff helped us - they were friendly and tried to solve it for us, and they walked with us to the reception and tried to explain the situation with no extra bed. The reception told us that we got what we paid for and could get no more service/beds from the hotel. We had paid for 5 persons, and When we complained and asked to see the manager, all of the sudden a solution was found from the front desk. I hate it when u have to raise your voice, even when the cleaning people where standing next to us and saying that there was an error with beds in the room, - and despite this - still the unfriendly staff at the front desk decided to ignore our problem..:( Other from that, the hotel itself is OK.
