We were originally supposed to stay at a much more expensive hotel in the Marienplatz area, but switched to the Moma 1890 to save on cost, and the reviews were so good. I am SO happy we did! It was our first time in Munich so we didn’t know what to expect. We did 3 nights in Munich before heading to Vienna and Prague. Originally, our trip was only supposed to be Vienna and Prague but with United having a direct flight into Munich, we decided to add a few nights in Munich to our stay. First of all, the hotel is in a fabulous location. We took the train right from the airport to the hotel. It wasn’t a bad ride and was way more affordable than a private car. We had a lot of luggage which fit fine on the train, but was a little bit of a pain getting up the elevator once we got off the train. It only fits one person with all their luggage. But once we got up the elevator to the main train terminal, there was an escalator that took us right to the front doors of the hotel. Literally. It was raining at the time so it was SO nice to not have to walk far to get to the hotel. Once we walked into the hotel, the people at the front desk were very kind and accommodating. We had a room on the 5th floor and again, elevator was super tiny so my husband and I had to go one at a time. We quickly realized (being this was our first time in Europe) that this was very much a European thing! Our room was large as spacious. I was honestly surprised. Everything about it was comfortable and inviting. Complimentary water, hair dryer worked, plenty of towels, large bed, no issues with sink or shower. We freshened up and then headed out to grab dinner. On our way out, we stopped at one of their beverage and snack stations and grabbed some complimentary water. They have plenty of water and snacks that are complimentary every day, as well as coffee and espresso and chocolates. They also offer beer and wine for a charge. It works on an honor system so you just take what you want and write your room number on a piece of paper. The area outside of the hotel is adorable and very safe. There are tones of restaurants and shops close by. We ate near the hotel multiple times and all the places were amazing. Marienplatz is a 5 minute train ride, which is so easy to do being the train is right outside the hotel. We were there almost every day and it was so crowded and busy and we were eager to at the end of the day to go back to our cute and quiet hotel area. One night we ventured out late walking around and ended up at the cutest little bar about 5-10 min from the hotel. This ended up being one of our favorite hotels on the entire trip. We are already trying the plan our next trip back!

“Adequate hotel - does the job - confused by the rating”

Nice receptionist and the hotel was in a good location (across the street from bus station and many resteraunts close by). But I’m a little confused why this hotel has a number 1 rating on TripAdvisor (pretty much why I picked the hotel). It’s adequate and does the job but our room was outdated and tired looking - looked more like a holiday inn than a boutique hotel. Unfortunatley this hotel isn’t anything special.

This hotel is located just across the street from the Ostbahnhof, providing great connections to all of Munich and the airport. The staff were really friendly on check-in, storing our bags since we were early, then getting us our room key quickly later. The rooms are arranged in a rectangle around an innter courtyard. There is a small lift on one side. Our room was I guess boutique, but very modern. It was large with a two beds pushed together. These were not the most comfy to sleep on as the mattresses were a bit thin. The room was a nice white décor with burgundy accents and gold drapes. There was a good and useful bathroom attached, too. Another drawback was the air conditioner and heater, which was anything but simple to operate. Any system where they have a QR code with a link to directions is way too complicated. But I finally got it working fine. There is a lounge on level 1. In the morning they serve a little buffet breakfast here. It's nothing grand, but a good little spread. It is included in some room rates, but not all so ask when you check-in. The rest of the day they have free non-alcoholic drinks and snack, and an honour bar with reasonably-priced beer and wine.
