“Superb location, atmospheric old building, vast rooms”

This old stone hotel smacks of faded grandeur, with some distinctly worn carpets and fifties furniture. However its location could not be more central and its paid parking is right at the front door. You can walk to everything you might want to see in the city. The rooms are huge, some with vast bathrooms, others with something more like a little nook. We had corner rooms overlooking the square with windows that open, which we appreciated, especially as our room had a very musty odour. None of the German hotels we have stayed at on our three week trip provide proper shampoo so bring your own. It’s a quirky old place but it was clean and the service was good, and this combined with its location moves it from a three star rating to the four stars I’ve given it.

This hotel is old but we appreciated the history behind it as we found it was used to house dignitaries dating back to the middle ages. Ask for the special Braunschweig football room #67 to honor the 1967 championship soccer team. Everyone in town seems to know about it but few locals have seen it.… more

This hotel is old but we appreciated the history behind it as we found it was used to house dignitaries dating back to the middle ages. Ask for the special Braunschweig football room #67 to honor the 1967 championship soccer team. Everyone in town seems to know about it but few locals have seen it. Double rooms are quite large. Church bells ring every few hours. You will either love or hate the sound.

Room was simple, but clean. Location right at the heart of Braunschweig, my room even had a view onto the historical cathredral and the inner place with the bronze lion. Price was reasonable. Not full number of stars because of not acceptable treatment be the staff during the check-in. The Covid rules just changed two days earlier and while the place had enough capacities to send me several "invitations" for early check-in by internet, they did not have the decency to point out that the rule have changed in between booking and day of arrival. Caused many problems finding a testing place. Had a very unpleasant phone call, because check-in closes at 9 p.m., which is surprising for an international hotel in the center of the city. this goes along with people clearly visible in one restaurant room busy drinking. I was so unhappy with the staff that I skipped breakfast and decided to eat at one of the nearby cafes. Next time I will definitely look for a different place.

I was here in October on a business trip. The hotel look very classy form the outside. Upon entrance you will see huge elegant staircase. The hotel is old and was under renovation when I was there. There was no noise to speak of though. The room was big. It had a small bathroom. The place was clean. The bathroom was the cleanest I’ve seen in some time. However, the shower was super small. I got in fine, but someone heavier wouldn’t fit. The breakfast was continental. Hotel is located in the very heart of the old city center. Free parking is available to hotel guests, but it’s limited. The bed wasnt' too comfortable. I had a stiff neck after two days of sleeping here.
