“Good hotel in a lovely setting”

Just had a brief two night stay at this hotel. Booked a two storey suite - nice views of the lake and plenty of space. Upstairs had a bedroom, small living area and a bathroom/toilet with a huge bath! Downstairs had a the main lounge area, a single bedroom and a walk-in shower room with toilet. All areas were spotlessly clean. The hotel has spa facilities and an indoor pool but we did not have time to try these facilities. We used the large restaurant for a snack lunch, evening meal and breakfast. I thought the lunch and evening meal menus were a little restrictive but we both found something to eat. The buffet breakfast had a very good selection of hot and cold food - the hotel has posted advice on the anticipated quiet versus busy times. In terms of Covid precautions, the hotel appears to be doing a good job, checking of negative test/ two vaccinations, plenty of hand sanitisation stations and two bookable seatings for evening meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will return sometime. The only negative point I could mention is that the internet speed is very slow, ok for eMails but you might have problems working/streaming films.

Oh dear. How to best describe this "experience" without sounding rude? Okay, let's start with the good bits, which lifted the review back up from the one star I felt like giving at one point. The breakfast buffet is GREAT. Better than in any five star hotel I visited. The rooms are large. Some of the staff are A) competent B) helpful and C) friendly. A few even tick all the boxes. Spa area is perfectly okay, especially the sauna looking over the lake. Great parking, free of cost. Otherwise, the receptionist was confused, confusing and hard to understand. Yes, he was a learner, but still. There is no signage whatsoever inside the hotel and given the confusing building set up, it's not easy to work out where to go.Fortunately, a friendly staff member was able to explain things. Arrival is not until 4PM.Okay, that can happen. What can't and mustn't happen is that one room of two then hasn't been done - and the cleaning staff in doing all the other rooms in the corridor first. Soggy mattresses which should havebeen replaced ages ago are a no-no. No wine card in a four star hotel is beyond no-no. The (visibly bored) waiter when askedfor the wine card esponded with "Red, white, or rose?" We said we wanted a wine card. He repeated his mantra.Only then did he deign to explain there were no wine cards. Only carafes. Needless to say, the wine was undrinkable. We wanted to eat a-la-carte, which is possible, although the selection is limited.The selection was even more limited, because a couple of items on the menu were "not available". Pardon? When even the dessert wasn't available (the freezer had broken, which can happen) even the bored waiter was embarrassed. The kitchen then created a special dessert , which wasn't put on the menu. That is actually great customer service. Upon checking out we faced more complications, none of which were a disaster- just too many niggly things that can happen once in a while even if they shouldn't. One or two are normal. Karma. All of it taken together is a sign of a house in trouble.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights at this hotel. Junior room. Clean, but the hotel and rooms need a face lift, except for the bathroom which was up to date recently. Breakfast is fine, diner too, but no menu only buffet. Staff is very friendly. The bar opens after 8 pm, but on Sunday it was closed. So our last night we needed to go outside after the buffet for a drink, but you need to drive to another village. The location is very nice, but isolated. Some campings and that’s is it. You can have diner at the hotel but if you want to go to another restaurant you need to take the car. Facilities inside the hotel like the inside pool, sauna, wellness and fitness are great. For swimming, biking and walking/hiking it is perfect. We took our bikes to go to Willingen. Very easy with a bike app from Sauerland, great surroundings on the way to Willingen. You can find a lot of restaurants in Willingen and by car it takes you around 15 minutes. Conclusion : nice stay, but only value for money when the hotel will get a facelift.

The location is beautiful but it isn't really a 4* hotel. The rooms are furnished without much taste, the bathrooms are quite old (so is the whole building) and the noise isolation is poor. The view from the room facing the lake is stunning but the balconies are tiny and very close to one another, so when someone is smoking on the balcony next to yours, the smoke and smell get not only onto your balcony, but also into your room, so it's better to stay in and keep the balcony door shut. Therefore, paying extra for a room with a view, which you cannot enjoy, is not worth it (especially that prices are quite high and there is no discount for single occupancy.) The spa is tiny, so is the pool, and it was closed for cleaning all morning so I didn't get a chance to use it (even though I was told they day before it'd be open from 7am). The restaurant closes very early so if you arrive after 9pm, you will go to bed hungry On the positive side: breakfast was excellent and the staff are very friendly.

The hotel is nicely located near the Diemel reservoir (artificial lake) at the Diemeltalsperre (at the northern part of the Sauerland. A hilly and forested region, mainly known for its hiking possibilities). The buildings are relatively old (approx. 1988), but clean and well maintained. The interior of the general areas, like the lobby, bar and restaurant, are renovated. We stayed in a (large, two level) family room with a balcony. From the balcony the Diemelsee could be seen, as well as the nearby camping lot (at approx. 10 meters, which can be seen as a minor complaint). Breakfast and diner (both buffet) are OK, the swimming pool convenient, but small (bathrobes for the adults were included). Disappointing are the poor showering conditions with low water pressure, unstable water temperature and a bath tub instead of a shower cabin. Sound insulation of the room is poor.
