“Great Location, Kind Staff, Quaint Hotel in the Beautiful Rhine Valley!”

I just returned from a quick trip to Europe with a friend and my 12 year-old, and we visited the Rhine Valley during our travels. I came across this hotel after seeing it in the Rick Steves Germany travel guide and cross-referencing TripAdvisor for reviews. The Hotel Am Market was a great value, perfect location, and served as a great home base for us to explore the region. It's a very different experience from a big hotel chain, but that's what we loved about it! Hoping to return one day with my husband, and would definitely stay here again. Notes from our stay: -Just a few steps from the train station, which was small and easy to navigate. You'll have to change trains to/from major cities, but you can access the small towns of the region cheaply and easily. Koblenz was a short train ride away, and was fun to visit for the day. -Next door to the TI, which had lots of brochures and information; never staffed when we popped in, but helpful regardless. -Located in the heart of the town of St. Goar, central to restaurants (in addition to theirs), shops and Rheinfels Castle, which is about a 15 minute walk up a lovely, steep-ish trail. Ferry to St. Goarhausen (directly across the river) is right out front and provides a fun alternative to getting around. (Don't forget to visit the Loreley-Bob if you like mountain coasters!) -Beautiful scenery, and some windows have a view of the castle(s), many of which are lit up at night, rising from fog in the morning, and simply stunning! -We stayed in a two bedroom family room, which was up 3-4 flights of stairs, a challenge if you have a big suitcase or mobility issues. Room was large, clean (daily housekeeping), and comfortable and we rested well. Bathroom was located inside one bedroom and hand soap and ample towels were provided (be sure to bring your own toiletries). -Breakfast was included since we booked directly through their website, and was a continental breakfast buffet with coffee, juice, cut fresh fruit, breads with jam/butter/nutella, meats & cheeses, yogurt. We did not eat at the restaurant outside of a slice of Black Forest cake one night (yum!), but it was consistently visited by many, and offers seating indoors, outdoors on the porch or outdoors in the square near the river. -The staff was incredibly kind and treated us like family. They did not speak much English (and we speak little to no German), but this was not an issue. -After reading some other reviews, I contacted the hotel beforehand to confirm that we needed pay cash to cover the balance after my initial credit card booking. I planned accordingly by withdrawing sufficient Euros from the airport ATM and paid at check-in.

“Good but could use a bit of work”

Stayed two nights in the lovely hotel on the village square. Large well appointed room that was very quiet at night despite the trains. The breakfast was tasty and generous and everyone made a real effort to be helpful. The spaghetti bolognese was over cooked so the pasta was mushy. I had trouble with the wifi, my phone would intermittently connect in the restaurant but not my iPad, and there was no signal at all in the adjoin hotel building.
