Super clima , felt big comfort of stay , my husband had a birthday and even someone from the reception have showed up in the room with some sweet treats and wishes . I highly recommend staying here .

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Trier. The location was pleasant, safe, and within walking distance of the Hauptbahnhof and Christmas Market (for some). The accommodations were comfortable and inviting, and all of the staff was friendly and helpful. Florian and Julian were especially kind. We had to catch an early train the next day, so Julian reserved a taxi for us (which arrived very punctually) and, since were going to miss breakfast, he had food prepared for us to take away. This made a huge difference in our travels. Thank you.

Currently stay here for a couple of days. Absolutely spotless, nothing too much trouble for the staff, couldn’t ask for more. Would highly recommend

Trier is not a city with an abundance of chain-hotel options. In fact, this Holiday Inn Express is one of only three or four branded hotels in all of Trier. That sets expectations — and, to some degree, explains why this property continues to attract guests despite shortcomings. Location and Arrival The hotel is located outside Trier’s historic core where most visitors want to spend their time. There are no meaningful restaurants, cafés, or shops nearby. A walk into the city center takes a solid 20 to 30 minutes at a normal pace. It is doable, but inconvenient, especially after a long day of sightseeing. Arrival is unnecessarily confusing. The roadside signage faces the wrong direction and directs arriving guests to the wrong entrance. First impressions matter. Here they are poor. Check-in and Policies At check-in, I asked for a second room key and was told that it is normally subject to a 5-euro charge, though the front desk agent would waive it “as a courtesy.” I have never encountered a charge for a second key at any hotel. Maybe it was a joke but either way it was unacceptable. The Hotel This is a very basic hotel. Unlike Holiday Inn Express properties in North America, the hotel has a full bar with an excellent selection of local and regional wines — far better than what you would normally expect from a hotel. It is, without question, the strongest part of the hotel. Unfortunately, the positives largely end there. The hotel does not have a proper restaurant. While food is technically available, it consists of microwaved frozen pizza. Given the lack of nearby dining options, this is a missed opportunity. A simple kitchen offering international hotel staples — burgers, salads, pretzels — would almost certainly be a revenue generator. Parking and Exterior Conditions Parking is one of the hotel’s most baffling issues. There are nowhere near enough spaces for the number of rooms. Yet, guests are charged 15 euros per night to park in a parking lot the hotel insists is NOT theirs. The hotel disclaims responsibility for the parking lot in terms of security and liability while still imposing a mandatory parking fee. The logic behind this arrangement is difficult to understand and feels fundamentally contradictory. The hotel says they don't control parking but then charge you for parking. Equally troubling is the condition of the area between the parking lot and the sidewalk. It is overgrown and littered with trash. It looks like a neglected no-man’s-land. From a guest’s perspective, it appears that no one maintains the space at all, creating a very poor first impression. Services and Housekeeping Services are minimal, even by Holiday Inn Express standards. Daily housekeeping is NOT provided, despite this being an IHG brand standard for the Holiday Inn Express brand. Under IHG policy, guests who decline daily housekeeping are supposed to receive 500 IHG points per night. Here, housekeeping is withheld by default — and no points are offered as compensation. Guest Rooms Rooms are clean but small. Bed configurations are limited to twins or queens; there are no king beds. Despite requesting the highest floor — both in my reservation and in my IHG profile — I was assigned a room on the second floor. I also was NOT upgraded even though queen rooms with a sofa (this seems to be the largest and most premium room category) were available for the duration of my stay. Per IHG policy, I should have received this room. Room amenities are sparse. There is NO refrigerator, NO alarm clock, NO bar of soap, NO bottled water and NO in-room safe. In the bathroom, NO soap is provided. Likewise, NO lotion is provided. In the shower, there are two dispensers: body wash and shampoo. NO conditioner is provided. I even asked the front desk. They told me IHG does not require them to provide conditioner. That's absurd. Who provides shampoo but not conditioner or shampoo and body wash but not lotion? It makes zero sense. The TV system claims to have CNN but CNN is not a working channel. Likewise, other international channels were NOT receivable and watchable. Amenities and Guest Experience Beyond the bar, the hotel offers virtually nothing. There is no market or sundries shop — only a vending machine — which conveniently eliminates any opportunity for guests to earn IHG points on incidental purchases. If you remove the ensuite bathrooms, excellent bar and 24/7 front desk, the overall experience is barely above that of a hostel or a low-end Ibis. Bottom Line Trier simply does not have many chain hotels. That reality works in this property’s favor. Despite significant shortcomings — in location, arrival experience, parking, services, amenities, and adherence to brand standards — the Holiday Inn Express Trier remains one of the few viable options for travelers who prioritize a recognizable brand. If you are flexible and willing to consider independent hotels, you may find better value, stronger service and a more authentic sense of place elsewhere in the city. The only reason to stay at the Holiday Inn Express is IHG points, which I suspect is why ownership or management are doing the absolute bare minimum.
