We’ve been spending 3 nights at the Palais and we really enjoyed the stay. The staff is excellent, helpful and knowledgeable. After online check-in we had completed the remaining formalities beside the counter, were equipped with a simple city map and recommendations for sightseeing. The whole common area is tastefully decorated and is pushing the old elegant style. The rooms are nice, even the comfort category is big enough with armchairs and desk. The bed was a bit soft but that’s personal taste, others might love it. Bathroom with shower was clean and well equipped. The staff ist taking good care of housekeeping and evening service. The breakfast is remarkable for such small hotel. We were not many guests for breakfast, but selection was very wide and presentation was excellent. Especially the waitress taking care of us was very friendly and nice, remembered our coffee and egg selection from the second day. Dresden is really worth a visit and the Palais would be much recommended choice of accommodation. It is pretty close to the old city and everything can be reached by walking. They also have an underground parking around the corner, that might be a bit tight if you’re driving a van or big SUV. There are plenty of cozy restaurants just around the corner too.

This is an amazingly good hotel. Traditional decor with a striking modern art collection. Superb restaurant serving French cuisine. Extensive buffet breakfast. What marks it out is the universal quality of the staff: all are helpful and friendly. Three points to note: first, the hotel is not in the city centre. It is in the inner new town. A very pleasant quiet area, which is 15 minutes walk away from the old town or you can catch a tram on the clean and easy to navigate system. If anything, the location is a plus factor: an oasis away from the bustle of the main tourist area. Secondly, if you intend to dine in the hotel restaurant, you will need to book in advance. You cannot always guarantee a table simply because you are a resident. Thirdly, the hotel is next to the magnificent Dreikonigkirche, the bells of which chime the hours throughout the night and furthermore summon the faithful to worship at 7 am very loudly. Nonetheless, this did not prevent us getting a good night sleep.

3 is an average of 1 and 5. 5 (great) for friendly and accommodating front desk and housekeeping services. And for a well-appointed and clean room at a good price for a Relais & Château property (single inner courtyard room, as reserved through Booking.com). “1” is almost entirely due to a 2:30 am fire alarm my first night, after crossing the Atlantic, that was handled in several ways that disappointed. After quickly dressing and exiting via a well-marked route I joined other guests in the square across from the hotel waiting as the fire department arrived. Thankfully it was a false alarm (“technical fault”) according to the recorded message that played inside the hotel over and over, in English as well as German). After about 30 minutes folks started moving into the lobby. I thought at first the event was over - there were no announcements in English at any time, I just followed the crowd. After 20 more minutes people went back to their rooms. About 45 minutes after returning to our rooms, the alarm went off again for maybe 30 seconds - enough to awaken anyone who’d fallen asleep again. The essential function of a hotel is to enable guests to sleep. When malfunctioning hotel equipment wakes the guests and requires them to exit at 2:30 am and awakens them again at 3:45 am, hotel management owes it to guests to take responsibility and apologize. This is all the more true for Relais et Château properties, which purport to be exemplars of service and comfort. I wasn’t looking for a free breakfast, a xeroxed letter from the manager (like the one awaiting me when I checked in) would have sufficed. I also would have appreciated staff announcements about returning to the hotel and to our rooms in English. I heard a few other English speakers during my stay.
