“GOOD CHOISE”

a good choise for Hamburg : very clean ( as normal in Germany) , staff very nice, breakfast ok. i would definetly reccomend the hotel. just a tip : take the bus 23 to the hotel, don't walk ( faster, easier ). I will stay again in case back to the beautiful Hamburg.

My partner and I stayed in this hotel, whilst arriving due to a funeral that we attended. We flew in late and arrived at 1.30am,. Although I'd booked the hotel through booking.com and left a message in it, I was concerned the hotel didn't think we would be arriving at all, so my partner phoned them the day before we were due to arrive and explained the situation. They have a system on the door, and gave him a code to put into it, For people who arrive late or are just back late from a night out. This put our minds at rest. On arrival, everything was locked up, but outside to the right of the front door is a computerised box, and for us a letter printed and stuck to the front door, with further instructions of coping with getting the door code key to our room and this would in turn get us into our room. I must admit, it had been thought out very well for people to arrive so early in the morning or leave so early in the morning for their flight, the automation of this service was really good. We only stayed in the room to sleep in., I loved the idea there was a small area to hang wet coats, and keep your suitcases in, like a dressing room. Separate from the bedroom, and the ensuite bathroom came off of this little cloakroom/changing room. I am British, so knew there would be no tea and coffee making faciilities in the room, instead they leave you a bottle cap opener. Very German. The water in Hamburg I'm told is so pure they don't add any Chlorine to it, and so its very clean and its fine to drink it from the tap. Which I ended up doing at the time, and my partner being a Hamburger had said it was very safe and tasted really good. He was right! The bed was really comfortable, the room was spotlessly clean, Wooden Parquet flooring, the room was simple but it was good enough for us. The Bathroom, although dated, was spotlessly clean too. We didn't use the room service, clean it every day, we stayed there 3 nights and on the 3rd night we left very early in the morning, 4am actually. If you have to leave the hotel as an unusual time, ask the Reception to book you a taxi in advance. Or the taxi service will not turn up without notice given beforehand.It cost us 25Euros to get to the Hamburg International Airport from this hotel at 4am pick up. My partner left the door key on the Receptionist's desk and we got on our way to the airport. We didn't use the continental breakfast which was available at 8 Euro's each. It looked beautiful when I accidentally walked in there one morning, lots of fresh fruit, meats, cheeses and bread on offer. The dining room was really classy and pretty. The only reason why we didn't eat breakfast there was we ate it with relatives that we visited. Otherwise, had we been there for a short holiday break, I would have indulged in the wonderful breakfast on offer. We used the bar (fridge in the corner of the lounge area) and bought some soft drinks to take to our room the last night. By this point I was pretty shattered. Our room was right at the top of the hotel. There is ONLY Stairs to get to the floors. WE had 3 flights of stairs and I'm disabled, It took me a long time to get to the room from ground floor. In general Germany are still trying to get it right for Disabled people, but still haven't got there quite yet. Walking between bus stops is not good for me. And if you use the public transport, you have got to be fit, because getting off a train and RUNNING for the Bus, I can't do, and at 12.30am, once you've missed the night bus, you have to wait 40 mins for the next one to come along. I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to share the pavement with drunks and drug junkies. The only other option is to walk 2 bus stations to the hotel. Which we did in the end, and I suffered a sprained ankle and leg from it. So climbing 3 flights of stairs after walking for 40 mins in the dark and around neighbourhoods, I didn't know on my own, was quite hairy and being confronted with the stairs?.. I just think we could have been told in advance, when we called that we would be on the top floor. So that some arrangements may have been changed with the management before we arrived. But apart from all the wrong things happening the first night. The hotel was lovely and warm and so was the bedroom and bathroom. Quality sheets and bath towels provided, Really loved the German Pillow. It's a 3 star hotel, and its very basic, The public areas are in a better condition than the bedrooms, but its all exceptionally clean and the beds are really comfortable, not rock hard. The shower was excellent too. It wasn't temperamental on temperature. It was a powerful shower.Soaps were provided. I would recommend the hotel and we are likely to stay there when we come to Germany again. Excellent value for money. Thank you for a great stay!

When I booked the hotel Marienthal, I wasn't sure what to expect as the hotels around Hamburg were a lot more expensive, but to be fair, the hotel is decent. The location is a bit further out, but the bus stop for the 23 and 213 buses is a 3 minute walk away and will connect you to the train and subway quite easily, Hamburg is a very big city so you can expect to have to travel a little. The hotel is clean and you can tel that the cleaning staff are attentive to keeping the communal areas neat and tidy. The rooms are sufficient, mine had a decent sized balcony, hairdryer, phone, tv, heated towl rail etc. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was considerably better than I had imagined and is worth eating there, as to be fair, besides the Shell petrol station, there isn't much else around it, but the area it is located in is very nice.
