We stayed for two nights here at the start of our Germany/Austria holiday. We had booked a package via Hamburg tourism which included the Hamburg card and a VIP ticket to the Minatur Wunderland. The location of the hotel is in a very quiet street but is within easy walking distance of busier parts of the city and very close to a metro station. Minatur Wunderland was a 10-12 minute walk away. It was the perfect location for us. The staff were friendly. Our room was nice and well equipped and quite spacious for the price paid- perhaps a bit dark but it suited our needs very well. The breakfast buffet was very good - lots of cold and hot choices with the best scrambled eggs of our holiday! We also had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant on the second night of our stay and thoroughly enjoyed that too.

Every time we visit Hamburg, for the passed fifteen years, our first choice for our stay, is definitely the Madison hotel. Hospitality and kindness, all of the personnel willing to help and make our stay pleasant and easy. Every time I step into the hotel lobby after the flight, I feel like I open the door of "my own house " in the city. Tidy and quiet rooms ,soo value for money. Thank you again Madison and... The short version: perfect location, great staff, kid-friendly, fantastic beds in quiet rooms, fantastic breakfast with anything you could want, great bar (with lots of alcohol-free alternatives for kids), restaurant is great and surprisingly good, cleaning impeccable, air-condition perhaps a bit too eager. We will definitely be back. The longer version: I honestly only booked this hotel because they had a vacant family room, and just one day before we were thinking of travelling to Hamburg, that was good enough. Communication with staff was quick, informative, friendly, and helpful, so I felt good about my choice as we boarded the train the following morning. Only later did I realize I'd inadvertently booked the second-best rated hotel in the entire city, and it really showed. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, everything looked and felt like a million euros, and we had some reservations about having brought our three kids (ages 5-9) to such a nice place. But the descriptions of the services and the family rooms held up: we were all welcomed with open arms, the rooms (two large rooms, privately connected by two solid, sound-insulating doors) were exactly as advertised, and we had the best time there. The Portuguese quarter and two different train stations are within easy walking distance, so you're spoilt for choice with regards to transportation and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel, which we used the first evening, turned out to be great value for money, kid-friendly, and with a great selection of food and drink. And we slept in perhaps the best hotel mattresses I've ever experienced, so a good night's sleep came easy. Downsides? The in-room TVs did not support any kind of streaming, so if your kids need a break, they'll have to make do with German TV, which was something of a linguistic challenge for ours. With a laptop and a HDMI-cable, you'll be past that, but offering a Chromecast or similar would be swell. And the air-conditioning in one of the rooms were perhaps a bit eager, so we had to fiddle a bit with the controls to not have it too cold. None of that mattered in the big picture, and The Madison played a big part in us falling in love with Hamburg immediately. You can get cheaper hotels, yes, but would you want to? I got offers from a few other hotels that were only one or two hundred euros less than The Madison for three nights, for separate rooms that would've posed a challenge for a family like ours. For what we got, and the peace of mind we had, we wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, and every time room service had been through our rooms, the kids' plushies were neatly arranged on each of their beds, welcoming them back with open arms. It's the little things.

Positives General: Central location on a quiet street, extremely friendly staff, excellent breakfast, free access via indoor corridor to the neighboring spa and gym (though only from in the mornings at 06-12, not fridays and weekends). The three-course dinner included in the room price was of very high quality, umbrellas available for borrowing. Room: Basic room was spacious, clean wall-to-wall carpet, kitchenette with a large fridge, electric stovetops, some dishes, coffee machine, excellent and wide bed, ergonomic "Tempur" pillow available free of charge from reception, high-quality toiletries in the bathroom. Plenty of space for clothes, good blackoutcurtains, fast WiFi connection (measured at about 100 Mbps) Negatives; The electric stovetops in the kitchenette could be replaced with a more convenient microwave. Thesomewhat old TV is small for the room size and lacks Chromecast. The air conditioning in the 30-year-old building needs repair: currently, it is almost ineffective and very noisy. Even at the lowest setting the humming is disturbing. Fortunately, the noise did not bother me at night as I always sleep with earplugs, and with the help of the nice reception staff I was changed to a room that cooled down a bit. On the other hand, the room windows can be fully opened, so ventilation works well. Tips: The coolest rooms are on the lower floors and above the hotel entrance, where a nearby tree provides nice shade. Ask for a room on the main entrance side if you do not want to hear so clear the otherwise beautiful bells of the Mikael Church ringing up to four times an hour, even at night! In the spa, people are nude in the hot tubs and saunas, which are shared by men and women. Swimwear is only worn in the large pool. At breakfast, specialty coffee and omelets are available free of charge upon request.
