Hotel interior is very nice, location is fine if you don't mind walking 20/30 minutes to the main bit of Hamburg other wise its a 16Euro taxi ride. Staff always on the reception same can't be said for the bar and restaurant, one lady on one of the days was doing the restaurant and bar by her self making it very slow service. Pillows very soft and sink to nothing, mattress bit hard. We also wanted a late check out as our flight wasn't until the evening, despite the hotel not being fully booked they wouldn't allow late check out. I would stay at a NYX hotel again but not this one solely due to the location and lack of staff.

The hotel is clean and have an elaborate breakfast buffet and the set up for tea at breakfast is one of the best I have ever seen. The room is comfortable and holds all you need with a possibility to make tea and coffee. The staff however is very slow and disengaged. Check in was slow, check out was slow, my colleagues drink was so slow from the bar we had to leave for dinner before it came. When asking a question we were met with a blank expression both at the reception and at breakfast. The only person who seemed any kind of engaged was the lady who checked me off the breakfast list as she was the only person who smiled. I give the hotel a 3 star rating due to cleanliness, a good bed and breakfast and the fact that they actually take tea drinkers serious. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Pros: Check in was very easy, I provided details by email beforehand and simply picked up the key from reception. The room was comfortable, the air con easy to sort out. Great rainforest shower. Cons: The hotel isn’t near any supermarkets or bars or anything, but is only a few hundred meters from Hammerbrook S Bahn. There was a suspicious incident where a random person entered our room without knocking first. Thankfully we were in the room at the time and the guy disappeared down the hallway. If this was housekeeping they must always knock before entering. Or was it someone who cloned a room key? This was raised to the staff at reception who didn’t take it seriously.

The location of the hotel isn't very nice, the whole neighbourhood feels industrial and it looks completely desolate in the evenings and especially on the weekends, the street is pitch black at night and feels a bit unsafe. Construction works here and there, making it difficult to walk the street with a heavy luggage. Upon arrival at the hotel, you must climb a flight of stairs; there's a lift but as a guest you cannot operate it yourself, you must ask the front desk staff for assistance (WHY?!), and the problem is, the front desk is very often unmanned... The rooms are small and if you have a big luggage there's hardly any space for it. The bathroom feels dark (no good light next to the mirror). Very unpractical soap dispensers, you must use both hands and squeeze the bottle very hard. The bed has a huge grope, you feel like sinking in it; obviously, the mattress needs to be replaced. No electric kettle in the room (although there should be one according to the description), so you must ask for one at the reception. The breakfast buffet/area is clearly not designed for the amount of guests -- passages are narrow and the room gets extremely crowded between 08-10 AM, all tables are taken, and there are long lines to coffee machines (only TWO coffee machines!, for >100 people!). One morning, a day-old bread was served, which was peculiar (should it be OK, in a good hotel?). The worst thing is that smoking is allowed on the balcony which is a part of the breakfast space, separated only in theory but in reality CONNECTED with big open windows and doors: smoke gets inside the main breakfast room constantly, making it a rather unpleasant experience to have breakfast there. When confronted with the problem, staff did not seem to care much about finding any solution to it, the doors and the windows to the balcony remained open -- unacceptable. All in all, I wouldn't recommend the hotel. I only chose it because of the many good reviews I'd found online, and I got quite disappointed.
