“Very nice place”

Great place, very nice employees. The food was great and so was the drinks. We rented an apartment and it was nice as well.

This was the third time I've stayed at the Atlantic Grand Hotel Travemünde. The first was a spring trip with my (late) husband in 2014, after I'd 'discovered' Travemünde the previous year, on a rite-of-passage trip for my 50th – my first solo trip out of the UK – spending a few days in the old city of Lübeck. The second was in the early spring of 2022, on my own after my immune-compromised husband said I should take a break (we'd been 'caged together' in Covid lockdown for two years in a small flat, while he was retired and I was still working full-time). And so to this year, for my first summer trip here and my first summer holiday on my own. I chose to come back because of those previous experiences – and more generally because I love Germany and can speak the language better than any other apart from my native English. I felt completely comfortable and at home. The hotel manages to be immaculate, elegant and really high-class, but without ever feeling remotely staid, frumpy or formal. I was able to relax the moment I arrived. The staff are not only superb at their jobs, they're also very friendly. The food is excellent – breakfast is a dream. It's peaceful as well as comfortable. The spa facilities are excellent and the indoor pool is very pleasant. The bar is top notch and Holstein’s restaurant serves impeccable food: I had dinner there once and lunch once. Well worth it. I’ve had the fortune to stay in a number of high-end chain hotels in the UK for work over the years, but nothing comes close to this on any score. Worth every penny – and unlikely to be my last visit.

Not just staying in a first-class hotel, but experiencing moments of pure relaxation and unforgettable excellence and hospitality. This is exactly what we experienced during our visit to the Atlantic. Many thanks to the entire team there for the wonderful stay, from reception to restaurant service to bar and also kitchen we were always very accommodating and warmly cared for! A booking there is for us always an invitation to pamper ourselves and enjoy life to the fullest. CarpeDiem :-)

“Slightly faded grandeur”

I stayed at the Atlantic Grande having arrived on the evening ferry and not wishing to drive on in the dark. Since it was a rather late booking, the room rate was expensive, and even slightly more than I had been quoted, since they added on 15 € for car parking. The hotel is in a beautiful, grand historic building, with spacious interiors but a hint of slightly faded luxury (e.g. grubby carpets). The arrival clerk was reasonably efficient but rather charmless, initially seeming to suspect me of being an intruder rather than a late-arriving customer. I was given a voucher for a free non-alcoholic welcome drink at the bar, a bit of a strange concept. The room and bedding were comfortable, though there was no chair for the desk. The stand-out item was the breakfast, a fabulous buffet to suit all tastes, everything fresh and of high quality, and looking out over the shore, either from inside the breakfast room or out on the terrace. There was even a special vegan section offering plant-based charcuterie and pâtés. The word fabulous is used on some hotel booking sites to mean ‘just about ok’, but I feel it applies literally in this case. On balance, a mixed picture. The hotel is probably best suited to couples in search of a romantic getaway, dreaming nostalgically of the heady delights of yesteryear.
