We were a family of 4 (kids 12,14). A NZ family living in Amsterdam, we decided based upon a description in the Travel section of Sunday Times that we would spend a week on the island of Sylt. (Covid meant we were looking for something close bit a little different) Although it did take 10 hours train journey to get there we loved our experience. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms were very comfortable and always spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly. We enjoyed sitting in the "cabanas" watching the sea, the beach and the people from above the promenade on the Hotel property. An ideal place for a Riesling or an Aperol Spritz. We rented E bikes and explored...great fun. You can rent from the Hotel but there are bike rentals within easy distance from the hotel. Miramar (and Sylt for that matter) has a relaxed vibe, but it is certainly a monied German that holidays here. Being Non German we were caught out by a few things....in no way did it detract from our holiday or enjoyment but would have been good to know beforehand, particularly in the height of the season. 1) If you want beach cabanas on the beach, it seems that you need to book them in advance. Just wandering down to the beach expecting to rent one when you feel like it wont work...we were told "Saturday" when one would be available...nothing spontaneous there...apparently you can book through the Intertourist shop/website 2) With Covid protocols in place the Hotel has 2 breakfast sittings....reserve your breakfast time in advance, for the first 3 days we had to have the early breakfast time 7.00-9.00...which wasn't a big hit with anyone because we were on holiday. 3) You ca reserve the cabanas above the terrace while you are there, which could be a good thing as the unreserved cabanas got filled quite quickly...having said that, we never had an issue getting one...but it is advised if the sunset is your priority. Would we come back...the answer is yes if we could reduce the journey time...one of our kids said that "if we had really rich grandparents, it would be like coming to stay with them"....sadly they don't so our week at the Miramar was perhaps a taste of what it could have been like staying with really rich Grandparents

The Miramar has an excellent view direct to North Sea and the beautiful shore line. Nothing obstructs the view. All employees are very friendly und seem really ready to welcome you. The room we have was a suit with an excellent view over the North Sea (really 2 rooms with balcony). The rooms are not modern but clean and offer everything needed. The whole hotel dates to the beginning of the last century and not much has been changed but only modernized. The breakfast buffet was really completed with everything you could need for breakfast. Any type of eggs included. The service is friendly and ready to help you at any time.

“5 stars is something else”

This is one of those hotels which have seen better times. The hotel is located right at the coastline at the end of the main road of Westerland, Sylt's sort of capitol. This is one of those hotels which have seen better times. The hotel is located right at the coastline at the end of the main road of Westerland, Sylt's sort of capitol. The rooms are ok but as everything else aged. Of cause you are located very well but this is cannot be an excuse to not perform on the level you are rated. From a five star hotel you must expect (much) more than just the basics. E.g. the meeting room was not cleaned up after we came back the next day and it was an efford to follow our wish to divide the consumptons between all of us.The breakfirst though is really good indeed and the staff is for sure friendly. All in all the Miramar is missing all the bits & pieces what it makes special to stay with someting special.
