Charming older mid-priced hotel with great amenities including very friendly service, a/c in rooms, nice terrace with flowers, koi pond, bar, highly rated restaurant, smoking lounge, minibar, good breakfast, and reasonably priced garage parking. It’s true the decor is quite dated but the bed was great, nice down comforter, and the room was quiet. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

“Stupendous”

Absolutely spectacular. Best room I've ever stayed in. Slippers and bathrobes provided. The decor is stunning. We dined in the restaurant and the food was to due for. There was a main waiter with full suit and tie. The sub-waiter only wore a vest. Each time they poured your wine or served you they put their left arm behind their backs. Everything was glad gestures to the sub waiter. They explained every dish they served. The room was beautifully decorated. The spiral staircase was black and gold.

This is a short distance from the Mitte, which is only 10min walk away or a couple of tram stops. That does not however mean it is in a quiet area: the principal disadvantage is that it is located on a four lane road with a tram track in the middle. Staying in the building at the back, we thought it noisy the first night, but that was becasue a window was not correctly closed. Once I had realised that, the double glazing meant we were not disturbed, so the location was not in fact a problem, but it might be a different story if you had a room in the main building on the street side. It is worth noting that the hotel has a secure garage on site. The decor is a mix of traditional styles, and will not appeal to those looking for something Zen, (although they will find solace in the Koi carp pool on the terrace at the rear, which has some of the largest Koi I have ever seen) but the beds were exceptionaly comfortable, with fluffy duvets and once the window issue noted above was solved, we slept very soundly. I don't understand the reviewer complaining about breakfast; although we had the simple Continental breakfast, bread and coffee were refilled on request without extra charge. The real attraction is however dinner and the exceptional wine list, which is of about 90 pages and has the most impressive range of German wines imaginable, often offering the same wine in several vintages. The range of wines available by the glass is also far above the norm. The cooking is not as exceptional as the wine list, but is very good, offering a short selection of imaginatively executed variants on Swabian cuisine. Food and wine is not cheap - this is Stuttgart, but it is not excessive for such a location.

I found this hotel to be a bit of a mixed bag. First, the positives: It is immaculately clean The staff are all very pleasant The room is a decent size for a single The mattress is good The shower is good The air conditioning system works well There is a fridge in the room Now the not so positives... The whole place looked very old-fashioned. No lift up to higher floors I could hear every U-Bahn train going past even with the windows shut and my room was at the back of the property! The ceiling is so thin that I can hear the person upstairs receiving texts on their phone. Every time anyone from the floor above flushes the toilet, I can hear it in my bathroom! There is no tea & coffee facilities in the room - not even a kettle. You get one 500ml bottle of water free at the start of your stay - this is not replenished. The bedding consists only of a quilt which is not even as wide as the mattress & so slides around all night. The quality of the breakfast was fine, but 99% of hotels provide a buffet breakfast - here, you have to decide what you want the night before - you can either have meats and cheeses with a couple of bread rolls or you can have a jam, marmalade, honey, and Nutella with your bread rolls. You can also have one small coffee. If you want any more than this, you have to pay for each item. The hotel lists an iPad in each room - I was intrigued by this, but you can't actually do anything much with it - it exists to tell you various things about the hotel, allows you to order room service, and so on
