We recently enjoyed a one-night stay at Glenapp Castle and left wishing we could have stayed longer. We arrived earlier than planned due to the inclement weather. Although the castle and guest rooms were still being prepared following a private event the previous evening, the team could not have been more welcoming. We were invited to relax in one of the elegant lounges and were offered tea and coffee while we waited, setting the tone for the exceptional hospitality we experienced throughout our stay. To pass the time, we wandered down to the walled garden and enjoyed lunch at Azalea. The glasshouse has the character of a grand old lady that could perhaps benefit from a little restoration, but somehow this only adds to its charm. Despite the Sunday roast menu, the staff were happy to accommodate our preference for starters instead, and the manageress even managed to find some chips for us, which was a lovely touch. After exploring the beautiful grounds, we were shown to our Garden Suite. The room was absolutely stunning, exceptionally spacious and wonderfully comfortable. It was particularly welcoming to arrive to a warm room with the heating already on, especially given the weather outside. We happily spent much of the afternoon simply relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. Before dinner, we enjoyed drinks in the Library Room, a wonderfully atmospheric space filled with history and an impressive collection of board games that would entertain guests of all ages. Dinner, however, was the highlight of the stay. The seven-course tasting menu completely exceeded our expectations. Every course was beautifully presented, thoughtfully crafted and full of flavour. The quality of both the food and service was exceptional, making for a truly memorable dining experience. The following morning, we took part in the castle's chocolate experience, which proved to be a delightful and memorable way to round off our stay. Ian, the Head Chef, was incredibly patient and encouraging despite our complete lack of chocolate-making skills. He expertly guided us through creating our own chocolate bon bons and Florentines, sharing tips and techniques while keeping the experience relaxed and enjoyable. It was a wonderful way to while away a leisurely morning, and we left laden with our own handmade creations, providing a sweet reminder of a truly exceptional stay as we headed home. From the warm hospitality and stunning accommodation to the spectacular food, beautiful grounds and unique experiences, Glenapp Castle delivered a luxurious and memorable escape. It is a truly special place where every detail is thoughtfully considered. We left relaxed, well-fed and already looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable Scottish getaway.
