“Pool to reception 5 minutes, steady walking pace”

So many reviews banging on about the "hill", well I just timed it, top to bottom, walking slowly, yes it is steep, but if you want the finest view in all of Greece from the Panoramic Restaurant, that is a small price to pay. It takes 5 minutes, repeat, 5 minutes, unless you have mobility issues.

Let me set the scene: you arrive, check in online, and before you can even finish your refreshing welcome drink at the bar, a friendly face whisks you away to your spacious room with a balcony. Think coffee table, comfy sofa, and chairs - basically, a little oasis. And the pool/beach area? Perfection. Soft mattress loungers, fluffy towels, and - hallelujah - no lounger hogging! The pool opens at 10.00AM with a lifeguard, so it’s all very civilised. Bring water shoes for the pebbly beach. Now, the breakfast. Oh, the breakfast! Bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, dried fruit, cereals, yogurts, pastries, salmon, anchovies, breads, olives - you name it, they’ve got it. It’s like a buffet designed by someone who actually understands food. And the room? Blackout doors, bug screens (pro tip: don’t close them fully unless you fancy a game of "How Do We Get Back In?"), A/C, and lovely little gifts left most days. The balcony is so private, you could do a happy dance in your pajamas, and no one would know. But - because there’s always a but - here are the tiny niggles: No tea/coffee facilities in the room. In 2026, this feels like a crime against humanity. No drying rack on the balcony. Wet swimsuits, anyone? Lunch menu: Full meals only. Where’s the pool bar vibe? Where’s the tzatziki and pita? And 18€ for a salad? Ouch. Drink orders by the pool? MIA. (Though, in their defense, we were there in the first week of the season - maybe they were still finding their rhythm.) The hike. The main building to the pool/beach is a ten-minute walk up a steep hill. It’s a workout, but hey, at least you’ll earn that breakfast! Verdict: A dreamy escape with a few quirks that’ll make you laugh (or groan). Would I go back? In a heartbeat - just maybe with a travel kettle and a sherpa for the hill.

Firstly, let me say this is an excellent hotel with many wonderful features. They do say it is built on the side of a hill, but be warned, it is a VERY steep incline to and from the pool or the beach. There are golf buggies available, but you may have to wait awhile during busy periods. The bungalows, as they are described, are actually four apartments in a block, two up and two down. They are comfortably furnished, and all the upper levels have good sea views. The panorama restaurant (for breakfast) boasts superb views across the Aegean to Turkey and the surrounding islands. Breakfast is a comprehensive mix of fruits, cereals, breads etc. and also some 'warm' foods served in bain maries. These are replenished regularly, but are never really hot enough. There is no 'omelette station' available as of May 2026. The fruit juice is machine dispensed, hut if you ask the helpful serving staff they have freshly squeezed orange juice on request. The Serenity restaurant at the pool, serves typical Greek dishes, at a similar price to the town restaurants. The position of the hotel makes it difficult to walk into Pythagorion ( steep hills, windy roads, no pavements) but a taxi fare one way is currently 8 euros ( 9 for card payment), and taxis usually come within 5 minutes of being called by reception. The reception staff are very helpful, and speak good English so can provide a wealth of local knowledge. The local taxi drivers too were generally very enthusiastic with their recommendations. All the other staff, catering, housekeeping etc are very friendly and keen to help. The private beach is very quiet, and ideal for relaxing. The pool has plenty of sunbeds, loungers etc, and there is a friendly life guard on duty until 6pm. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel, but there are a couple of very small niggles: 1 For a five star hotel why do they insist on providing bath towels, rather than bath sheets? These were changed every day, whether you wanted that or not. I would have preferred bath sheets, and kept them for 2-3 days. 2 As is common in a lot of Greek hotels, there is no facility in the room for making hot drinks. A mini fridge to keep water cool, but no kettle or coffee machine for an early morning drink. Otherwise, a very enjoyable week spent in a super hotel. PS The little marketing gifts, eg sunhats, playing cards, tote bag were a very useful touch, and definitely appreciated.

This is purely my experience of the hotel. Location- the views are stunning. You can see the sea and across to Turkey. However, the hotel does decline down a hill into the pool and beach area so if you’re in the main building it’s steep if you have mobility problems like my mum does. There aren’t any shops or restaurants nearby, and the main town is a 20/25 minute walk but there isn’t always a pavement and the roads are windy. Walk with caution. You can get a taxi for €8 but that adds up. Room in the main building - the room was spacious and the air con was great. The bathroom is dated but large. On some Occasions we had gifts in our room. The biggest issue was the balcony which was covered in ants so we didn’t use it. From what we saw it was never cleaned. Pool area - the main attraction. You have views of the sea and the pool itself is big enough for swimming. We always got a sun-bed and there were no sun-bed wars in May. Again there were ants, the tables by the sun loungers were not cleaned and we were there early to see they were dirty first thing which attracted them. Beach - it is a pebbled peach with sun loungers, I visited it but preferred the pool to spend the day. Restaurants - it was all fancy and expensive. We ate at the restaurant by the pool one evening and tried to order stuffed peppers (the menu was one pepper and on tomato) but they wouldn’t change this. You couldn’t add chips to you order. A coke was €4 but local shops sold them for €1. Coffee was €6 and you didn’t have a kettle in your room so you had to buy one. Staff - the majority of people who worked in the hotel were friendly and helpful. Staff in the bars and restaurants were happy to help. Reception staff were mostly friendly but they didn’t always feel approachable. Samos is a beautiful island but I’m not sure if return to this hotel. Based on the reviews most others would though.
