We loved the Modernist where we stayed for 6 nights. Excellent position in the walking centre - close to Venizelos statue and just three minutes stroll to the sea down Aristotelous boulevard and square. Quiet a/c room where everything worked (though short of horizontal surfaces and lacking a usefully placed mirror for make-up). Delicious breakfast was delightfully served on the roof terrace (sheltered as required), and they made us breakfast boxes for our very early final departure. And best of all... never have we experienced such friendly and efficient reception service. This ranged across the initial booking by phone and email, recommending and booking restaurants, excursions and taxis, and taking an interest in us and everything we did. Thank you!

My first ever visit to Greece in general and Thessaloniki in particular was made even more memorable by my stay at the Modernist. From the moment I arrived to the time I bid them «Τα λέμε» (for I definitely shall be returning) I could not have wished for a better place as a base for my first, but not last, appreciation of the city. The front of house team members were most welcoming and encouraging when I tried to practice my rudimentary knowledge of Greek. They, of course, were able to converse with me in English and other guests in several languages with an ease and fluency I found most impressive. Apart from their obvious administrative duties they were always ready to offer helpful insights about places of interest with a local knowledge that enhanced my visit and showed me a delightful side of the city that many visitors might miss. Their suggestions for eating and drinking provided me with an unmissable chance to savour a wide range of Greek cuisine, both familiar and new. The single room I had booked more than met my expectations. It was spacious and provided all the amenities I required. I appreciated the well stocked minibar/fridge and snacks at very tempting prices. I was delighted with the complimentary slippers and toiletries that made the ones I always bring superfluous. I could not fault the cleanliness of the room and the attention to detail by the housekeeping staff. They are often left unmentioned in reviews but I have no hesitation in expressing my gratitude for their hard work behind the scenes. I really appreciated all they did. Breakfast on the top floor terrace was a lovely way to begin the day. A wonderful selection of pastries, finger foods, cold cuts, cheeses, dairy items and salads were available, along with a number of cooked items and drinks both hot and cold. The team members who managed the buffet were friendly, helpful and attentive. I had decided to try and adhere to dietary requirements out of respect for the Orthodox Easter, during which period I was visiting and they helped me with the breakfast choices that satisfied them. I did manage to avail myself of the full buffet once I was able to and it did not disappoint. The central location of the hotel allowed easy access to many places of interest though with so much to see and so little time to do so I had to content myself with knowing that I would see more on my next visit, staying of course, at the Modernist. On this occasion I was not able to visit the hotel’s cafe with outside seating for a relaxed drink due to my ‘first time’ visitor mindset but I can easily see myself next time passing quality time in such a convivial space. I thoroughly recommend the Modernist as a place to stay, both for the first time as well as seasoned traveller. I can’t wait to renew my acquaintance with it and the delightful team members who made my stay so memorable. To them I say a heartfelt thank you and, of course, Τα λέμε!

“Nice boutique hotel in central location”

Stayed for 5 nights and overall a nice stay. The hotel has an art nouveau style and is nicely furnished. The images on the web gave the impression this is a large hotel but it is actually very small with just 8 rooms on each floor. Stayed for 5 nights and overall a nice stay. The hotel has an art nouveau style and is nicely furnished. The images on the web gave the impression this is a large hotel but it is actually very small with just 8 rooms on each floor. Therefore the lobby is small, there is no lounge or bar (or pool), and the breakfast area on the roof is also small but quaint. The breakfast range was limited but the quality was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Christos on the front desk who was really nice, helpful and good fun! The main downside was that the bed was a futon style so was very low to floor on an elevated pedestal. Getting out of bed was quite challenging!! However, overall we had a very nice stay and can recommend this hotel.
