My wife and I recently returned from a wonderful stay at the Coyaba - our second for the year ! The Coyaba , ideally located directly on Grand Anse beach , is a gem of a hotel . Set in a lovely garden , the rooms are clean and comfortable , the staff friendly and efficient , and the meals in the two restaurants always tasty and varied . We took the All-Inclusive option , which is excellent value for money . We have already booked our return visit .

“Definitely a Repeat!”

This was our 1st time in Grenada. When we arrived at the resort, we were warmly greeted, given a cold towel and a delicious rum punch. Next, we were escorted to our room and our luggage was taken for us. The room was just right. Small fridge, very clean, large bed, balcony. Although the coffee was instant coffee, it was ok. We did NOT get the all inclusive package. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We ate at Umbrellas three times and had good food each time. We went to the beach all but one day. Just drag a lounge chair onto the beach and your cooler and you are all set! They provide decent beach towels. There is a grocery store and a mall right across the road. (Bring your own bags.) We bought our alcohol there and some snacks. The resort has several ice machines. Bring 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. They accept American $. To get to the airport will cost you between $20 and $30 in dollars. Taxi ride from the resort to the short distances we went were $12. The beach is very safe and barely any vendors trying to sell anything. We were going to go to the Spice Market, but it appeared as though there was very little activity. We had a great time and would definitely come back again! They are very friendly people.

Just arrived home from a very pleasant trip to this lovely positioned, traditional colonial hotel surrounded by beautiful gardens which is fast becoming replaced by grey, modern, marble, mirrored and polished brass Americanised hotels that are springing up all over the Caribbean and hotels such as this are being bought up and changed forever to something as above. This hotel is very quietly and respectfully being upgraded modernised and extended but keeping the Caribbean ethos and vibe and traditional values that has made it so popular and a favourite of many. The work is ongoing for maybe another two months but it no way compromises your holiday except the dining norm is disrupted but adequately managed, however the food apparently is not up to par but I am sure when all new restaurants and building works are finished, they will up their standards to match their new facilities. We did find that service in the restaurant was rather lacklustre, not much interaction, friendliness and attention to duty and smiles nearly non existent except for a few lovely people, no names but this needs looking into as it has a big impact on your holiday. Overall the holiday was lovely, the sun shone and the beach nearly always empty was gorgeous and we will return when all works are finished to experience this hotel at its best.

We arrived at the Coyaba Beach Resort around 8.00pm in the evening. We knew the restaurant (Carbet) by the swimming pool stopped taking orders at 9.00pm, so we dropped our cases and went over. At the entrance I asked for a table for two (there were several empty tables). The waitress asked if we had a reservation and when I replied that we had only just arrived, she said there were no tables available and to go to the main restaurant! We went to the main restaurant (Arawakabana) and found it was more acceptable to us, with staff more friendly! Meals were buffet style, apart from our second week when there was table service on some evenings, but I think the food was the same as buffet style but plated for you! The waiting staff often forgot to ask if you would like a desert! The main bar by the main restaurant was Cacique, and this is where the entertainment was held every other evening. The bands played from 8.00pm to 10.00pm and that was it! The bar staff seemed to think that was enough and the bar quickly emptied after the music finished, and by 10.30pm the staff were waiting for our empty glasses – and on our last evening the curtains were being pulled around the bar at 10.30pm – obviously it was time for bed!! The bar down by the beach ‘The Cove’ was very good during the day. Lovely drinks and the snack food was excellent. Not many people used the swimming pool, as most preferred the sun-loungers under the trees by the beach (inside the fence from the main beach). Some people even hogging two sets of sun-loungers – one set in the sun and the other in the shade – this should be stopped! We had the pleasure of the American medical students from the university next to the hotel partying on the beach outside the hotel most afternoons. After they had run out of their own cold drinks they came into the hotel and enjoyed rum punches at The Cove! There was also a pack of wild dogs (around 7 of them) roaming up and down the main beach. If you took your sun-lounger onto the main beach these dogs would lay around or under your bed! We had the pleasure of ‘meeting’ the management on two evenings for around an hour – and then they vanished again. One or two of them turned up in the main restaurant one evening cosying up to returning guests, but not introducing themselves to ‘first timers’! Our ‘all inclusive’ room was on a small block between reception and the conference room! The ice machine at the bottom of the stairs did not work for the two weeks we were there. Below our room was the gym which apparently was open 24 hours a day – thank goodness not many guests were very enthusiastic. Our room was very dark, two lights in the main room (a table bedside lamp between the two large beds, and a standard lamp across the other side of the room, each had a heavy brown wicker lampshade reducing the light - there was no way you could read a book in the evening in bed as it was far too dark. The room was very tired looking. In the bathroom the sliding shower screen was jammed and we had to use sun oil to free it. There was rust down the side of the bath and a dark brown rim around the plug hole in the bath. There was dust under the sink which never moved for two weeks, and I don’t think the floor in our room was even washed while we were there. Perhaps a crash course in room cleaning is required asap! On a positive note, the gardens were kept beautiful and manicured to a ‘T’. Full marks to the gardening staff. From the outside the blocks of rooms looked attractive painted white. The beach and security staff down by the beach were very helpful. Would we visit again – no, but I can understand that other people might be drawn back. .
