We spent two nights at Jardines del Lago. It’s in a stunning location with fantastic a view out across Lake Atitlan. It’s also just a short walk from the town where you can find many restaurants, cafes and shops - many aimed at tourists. Our room was on the first floor accessed off a wide balcony from where there was a great view of the beautifully kept gardens, lake and mountain’s beyond that. Our room was clean but sparsely furnished. There was a large and comfortable double beds, small writing table and one chair. The bathroom was compact with WC, shower and freestanding wash hand basin. There wasn’t anywhere to put a soap bag so everything had to be stored elsewhere. The lighting wasn’t very good when shaving. We’re sure there are bigger rooms that might be better appointed but as our room had been booked for us as part of a tour we took what we got. There was a cafe, lake side bar / drinks deck, large dining area with seating inside and out among other. We ate breakfast in the main dining room but chose to eat dinner in the nearby town to broaden our experience. Service in the dining room could have been better. The staff on reception were very helpful.

This hotel gets a four because of its position but there are things they could definitely do better which I would give a three for. Arrival: reception staff average not particularly helpful despite us arriving with a local guide. She had to ask simple things like breakfast time. No information given. Room: we had room 3 which had magnificent views over the lake and luckily was quiet. The room was fairly basic but clean, absolutely no hanging or storage space. We had a kitchen area, a bedroom and a bathroom. Comfortable beds, shower ok. The room could be amazing if done up. Food: we only had breakfast which offered excellent choices although it was very chaotic one morning as there was obviously a very large group in. Staff struggled to keep things filled. Outside area: beautiful well kept grounds with those views. Easy walk to the centre where there were many bars and restaurants, we went to the Circus bar for dinner each night as it was so good. Boat jetties within a few minutes walk. The hotel needs to work with the staff, a smile and a good morning costs nothing. Well done to the lovely gentleman who looked after the car park and some of the breakfast staff. The hotel definitely has a wonderful location, they just need to tweak the service.

Scheduled here as part of a tour. First floor took near reception is convenient but no privacy if you want to leave curtains open to enjoy the beautiful lake view. Scheduled here as part of a tour. First floor took near reception is convenient but no privacy if you want to leave curtains open to enjoy the beautiful lake view. Room drab and old but comfortable bed. Many pillows but all firm. Didn’t seem to have heat or air conditioning but luckily I didn’t need any. Walk about 100 yards to left for little boats to go to towns on the lake got 25 q. However the ride is very bumpy and you need to be very flexible to get on and off the boat. In San Juan del Lago there is good shopping but a very steep hill to climb to get to any shops. Breakfast ok including made to order omelets or eggs, delicious ripe fruits. Bread types and sweets very disappointing. Dinner very disappointing with not fresh fish and tasteless soup. Also cold French fries. Restaurant not appealing to look at unless they have the section open that looks out onto the lake.

“Everything but the room”

This is an amazing property with stunning views of Lake Atitlan. The food at the breakfast buffet was very good and the staff were all excellent. Unfortunately the room was the one problem. We booked a Queen but were give a room with 2 double beds. I would go again but only if I could be in a room… more

This is an amazing property with stunning views of Lake Atitlan. The food at the breakfast buffet was very good and the staff were all excellent. Unfortunately the room was the one problem. We booked a Queen but were give a room with 2 double beds. I would go again but only if I could be in a room off the main square and closer to the water.
