“Excellent experience”

This hotel is top notch. Javier at the front desk went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Met our two top requirements in a hotel, clean and quiet. Breakfast was amazing as well. So many options.

“Amsterdam visit”

Very pleasant hotel with access to everything and everywhere in the city, literally within very short walks. Exceptionally pleasant and helpful staff at the bar! This Dutch hospitality should be replicated planet wide!

Room was clean and comfortable. It was easy to catch a tram or walk to where I needed to go. Only real problem I had, was when I checked in I was given a small room on the first floor, I was first told there is nothing available, but when I pushed about that I had made a reservation in December with an upper floor request, another room was available. Hmmmm. The bar was incredibly understaffed.

The room was very large but could have used more lighting, especially in the rather large entranceway. And on our first night in the hotel the room was quite chilly. I had to call the front desk and they had to explain how to get the heat working. The hotel uses an old-fashioned steam radiator system for its heat but there is a thermostat in the rooms. However, the highest temperature that you can set is 23C (73.4F). Once working it took the room a while to warm up. It was quite chilly outside during my 3-day stay with temperatures ranging from 34-50F. There were times when the heat wouldn't come on and I believe that the hotel periodically shuts the whole system down. I had the same experience at a major hotel in Paris just before coming to Amsterdam. I realize that many EU countries are trying to be green, but that shouldn't happen at the comfort of guests. The room had a full-size sofa and the king bed was very comfortable. The shower was good but had one of those half walls of glass, so the floor got soaked every time one of us took a shower. Also, the bathroom needed more light at the sink/mirror. The breakfast buffet was excellent, offering a large selection, including fresh fruit like blueberries, and there was the option of ordering custom eggs. The front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful when I sought their help to make reservations, get directions, etc. The hotel is in an excellent location, right at Leidseplein Square, so you could walk to many restaurants and shops, and tram and bus stops were located very close to the hotel.
