What a fantastic experience. First time at Efteling for most of my family (although my eldest was at Efteling a year ago) and we stayed for 3 days/2 nights at a house on the Bosrijk site. We've visited Disney Paris , many times since it first opened and in my experience Efteling is incomparably better in almost every respects (the only downside being a lack of globally branded "characters"). In my personal view Disney has completely lost its way and now just wants to part you and all of your money as quickly as possible......to that extent it's completely lost sight of its original purpose. Efteling is so much different and puts its guests first, second and last. All the staff are so friendly and helpful and everyone spoke excellent English. The Bosrijk house was so comfortable and well equipped (even a dish washer!) and the siting/theming of the forest development was so atmospheric......no issue whatsoever in returning there. The park itself is briliant with incredible theming which is hard to explain.....sort of a mix of fairytale/Bros Grimm and Germanic Black Forest. It's absolutely huge and no doubt you will walk long distances during your stay so go prepared. The food was absolutely exceptional......not exactly cheap, but very reasonable for a theme park, and unlike Disney (which charge eye watering amounts for food which tastes like cardboard) it was worth what you pay for, and the choice of different menus inside the park was incredible. Thye park was VERY busy for 2 of the days, but we never had to queue for tables or for food. Souvenirs were generally of good quality and very keenly priced, e.g., we bought a large "winter" themed fleece lined "throw" for E25, and the quality is superb. Efteling does not have fast passes on sale for something that you've already paid for.....unlike Disney or Universal. Two of the more popular rides (Dance Macabre and Dreamflight) have FREE virtual queueing, but you have to "book" your slot pretty quickly because they do get full, the longest we had to queue for the bigger rides was 60 minutes and hotel/residential guests get ride access 30 minutes before the park opens generally. The app is an absolute must and is really useful. We saw the Caro show (which you have to pre-book) at the Efteling theatre which was absolutely brilliant. It lasted 90 minutes and at a cost of just E12.50 each was just fantastic value......the production was 100% worthy of a London West End slot and was incredible entertainment even for people like me who don't particulalry like that sort of thing. No end of day fireworks but a brilliant end of day (2 time slots) water show at the main lake. I believe that the "company" running Efteling is effectively a trust, which sort of explains why their kudos is to entertain prople and not rob them blind. Such an original and refreshing approach for this type of attraction. Apparently 90% of Dutch people have visited Efteling at least once which says something, and the Dutch must be very proud of this world-beating theme park on their doorstep. All in all, a brilliant, and very tiring 3 days. No problem at all in returning to what must be on the world's very best theme parks. If I could give it 8 stars I would!!!

The positives: We have just arrived home from a stay at Efteling Bosrijk. It’s in a brilliant location and the grounds are lovely. We were in the hotel and our friends were in a self catering house. The hotel rooms are a great size and nicely decorated. The beds are comfy and we slept well. Our friend’s place was also lovely. It’s like a little village. Very pretty to walk around. Staff at reception were very helpful and welcoming. The shop had enough and wasn’t too expensive. Breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choice even when it was busy. You are a 10 minute walk to the park and you can get into the park 30 minutes before it opens because you are a hotel guest. There is a pool. We never used it, but our friends did and they enjoyed it. The negatives/pointers to be aware of: Just be aware, your towels don’t get replaced, but there is a towel rail that you can switch on. Our bins never got emptied either. So there wasn’t any housekeeping at all during our stay. All this we could handle though, as we weren’t in our room much at all. It’s just a good thing to be aware of. My only true negative was a smell in the corridor. We were in the 4th floor and it was quite strong. It wasn’t in the room, thank goodness, but I got the feeling it’s a pipe issue and potentially a big job to fix. We didn’t bring it up to reception as it was not in our room and there’s no way the housekeeping staff aren’t aware of it. You can also hear your neighbours having a shower. You can actually hear that water running!! But again if you’re at the park this isn’t going to bother you too much as you’re not going to be in your room long enough to notice these things. Overall though, the positives did outweigh the negatives and we really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in a Premium Room at the Landhuys hotel on Bosrijk. It's tricky to drive round to drop our stuff off as not much space when other cars have parked poorly. We stayed in a Premium Room at the Landhuys hotel on Bosrijk. It's tricky to drive round to drop our stuff off as not much space when other cars have parked poorly. Path not brilliant and it was wet so didn't want to walk from carpark. Building looks good and room was nice but no atmosphere and what's the point of those coffee machines in the lounge area downstairs? They only ever offered hot water yet there are lots of mugs and I thought it might be nice to sit with a drink but never worked. Pillows are awful in the room, lumpy and not comfortable so not a great night's sleep. The theming of the whole Bosrijk site is beautiful and I did enjoy our little walks around for breakfast each morning as that was back in restaurant at reception. Rest of our family stayed nearer reception/front of park in one of the village houses. Much nicer area and I think I'd stay there if we came again.
