“Lovely stay”

We had a lovely stay here, being able to access the park 30 minutes early each day and with only a 5 minute walk to the park. Breakfast was delicious and even had a whole section for allergy friendly foods. All the staff were really friendly too

We stayed at the Efteling Wonder Hotel for four nights in a “suite,” paying over €1300 for the stay. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the price. The first issue was the room itself. It was very old-fashioned and in serious need of updating. For a hotel charging this amount, the condition of the suite was disappointing and felt dated rather than charming. Another major issue was the lack of basic amenities. There was no conditioner provided in the room. As a result, we had to take an Uber and paid €25 just for the trip to a store to buy some. When I raised this at reception, the response was extremely disappointing. The lady at reception was rude and argumentative, stating they did not have to supply conditioner. We were genuinely shocked by her attitude. Having stayed in many hotels around the world, conditioner is a standard amenity—especially at this price point. On a positive note, the food was excellent. Breakfast in the restaurant was lovely, and the Saga dinner was also very enjoyable. These were definite highlights of our stay. Overall, while the dining experience was great, the outdated room and poor customer service at reception significantly let the hotel down. For the price paid, we expected a much higher standard.

Let me start by saying that this hotel is good, the location is great and the staff are friendly. The rooms are good, the beds comfy and the little details give it great theme. But there are some points that I really think are worth mentioning primarily because we’ve been to this hotel several times prior to the renovation of the reception and breakfast areas. Some of the choices have really surprised me. This was a kid friendly hotel, but outside of the rooms it just isn’t anymore. The reception used to have this cute little step that children could step up on and be invited to the hotel. They would get a little something to welcome them to the Efteling. There was also a simple ice lolly freezer which was great if they didn’t want a heavy dessert after dinner. That is gone too. The playroom is gone as well and has been replaced by a circle of screens in the middle of the restaurant and only 2 of the 5 or 6 screens seemed to function. But why the choice for screens when the children really enjoyed the playroom? You now see children playing in the walkway right where the staff are trying to serve etc. The brown cafe is gone too which had such a nice atmosphere and offered more casual dining. Then the breakfast buffet is now so high that young children can’t see what’s available (other than the bread table) and it’s along quite a narrow walkway. Perhaps an idea to make a separate area that is on some lower tables - like a kid’s buffet or consider placing the entire buffet area somewhere else. Personally I had two situations with hot coffee in my hands that a young child bumped into me. Fortunately nothing spilled on them, but I can see this going wrong at some point as it’s just too narrow / too busy. In summary, I just don’t understand why everything that made this hotel kid friendly downstairs has been taken away. It’s not a bad hotel, and if you visit it for the first time after the renovation it is a good hotel. But if you knew it before then the choices that have been made are interesting. I hope the hotel can see it is constructive feedback and perhaps reconsider re- introducing and changing some of the elements.
