Wonderful location. #12 electric bus to get you up the hill past the clock tower, the main shopping section with a stop ~ 2 blocks from the train station. and easy walk down. Across the bridge from Bear Park. Two ice cream parlors and Asian food restaurant are immediate neighbors. The room was very clean and a good size. The bed was comfortable and street noise was not an issue at night. Minor complaints: The latch on the safe batteries was missing a screw. So, if the door closed too hard, the batteries came loose. Fortunately, this did not happen while I had stuff in the safe after looking it. Also, the shower was slow to empty. That said, the show was hot and had good pressure. Breakfast was thin but adequate—breads, hard boiled eggs, small selection of cheese and meats. Simply wonderful service in the restaurant and at the front desk. NB: The reception is not staffed at night.

The hotel is located at the eastern end of the Gerechtigkeitsgasse, the main, mostly pedestrian, road through the UNESCO core of Bern. You can walk to all the big historic sites from here easily. The lobby was like some classic movie: a small, dark wood desk area with the message boxes behind. There is an old lift that will take you to the rooms upstairs, but note it is old and tiny. The hotel room had character to spare. It felt like it's been operating a century if a day, with the old wallpaper on the walls and lack of power outlets. Still, the other amenities are all modern, right down to a K-cup machine. I loved the room and how it was a blend of Old World design and modern comforts, except for the lack of places to recharge our various devices simultaneously. The big challenge is that this is one of the most expensive hotels in the city. It is a great experience, but not necessarily great value. They have a dining room where they at least serve breakfast, maybe dinner, however we did not go as brekkie was extra from the already expensive room rate. On the other side of a dividing wall from the small lobby is a larger and classic late-1800s bar, and like most places. out front along the street they have tables on the cobblestones, too. If you have a car, you might be able to park quickly in front of the hotel to unload bags, but the nearest parking is in a public garage about 400 meters away. If you arrive via rail, it is on the opposite end of town, about 1.5km away, but the bus goes right down the road in front of the hotel.

“Central Location ”

My husband and I stayed in Bern for one night. This hotel has a great location. It's only a few minutes from a number of attractions. The receptionist was nice. Breakfast costs extra. Our double bed was two different sections and moved a lot. Pillows were flat.
